Created an Access database for storage of customer information, services information, and appointment information. Used ADO.NET OleDbDataAdapter data Provider to interface to the Microsoft Jet 4.0 database engine to interface to the ACCESS database. Calendar is refreshed from the database as each Day / week is selected. Appointment edits are stored in the DB to guarantee data retention and the screen display is refreshed.

Solution architecture project included practical experience of requirement development from interviews with a customer and translation of requirements into screen designs and a functional specification for the .NET application. Created Visio screen layouts for 9 Windows functional application screens, and a Visio Object Model and a Visio database Schema for the Student / course management application for TrainingNH. Created a 29 page functional specification for the .NET TrainingNH application design.

Taken and Passed all five Microsoft exams for the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD ) certificate, and am currently working toward the last Windows Advanced Server 2003 exam for the Microsoft Certified Database Admin (MCDBA) certificate.

Major Accomplishments:

System Engineering lead engineer for the TL1 Network Management Interface of the Optical Network Navigation System (ONNS) switching control software for the LambdaRouter optical switch & LambdaUnite project. Responsible for the architecture, design, and documentation of the TL1 command language to control the Network Navigator distributed optical switching control system. Optical Network Navigation System, implemented on the Lucent fiber-optic / SONET network elements, provides automated distributed connection provisioning and rapid automatic path restoration of failed mesh network connections.

 

Defined the Network Management Interface of the Network Navigator and managed the ONNS interface with various network management platforms. Reviewed and consulted on the design of network management system (NMS) driver interfaces to ONNS. Architected the TL1 command structure to allow NMS control of ONNS and to implement the connection provisioning operations. Created the messaging and report format to allow the NMS view and synchronize with the distributed network provisioning operations of ONNS. Wrote system user documentation to explain the ONNS operations, and to educate NMS designers about ONNS interface details.

 

Defined and wrote all of the ONNS TL1 commands, including commands to enter, edit, delete, and retrieve connections, to retrieve ONN databases, to set ONN configuration parameters, and establish user logins and security. Planned TL1 implementation to match the phased ONN feature deployment. Created four REPT notification message types to report ONNS automatic path restoration activities and other autonomous events /changes in the transmission network or control plane network. Maintained the master list of all ONN messages and error response notification requirements. Supported the production of the Operation System Engineering Guidelines (OSEG) for each Network Element(NE) product release.

 

Defined the ONN software initialization requirements for the LambdaRouter & LambdaUnite network elements, including internal initialization requirements for LambdaUnite where ONN functionality was distributed across two controller cards. Defined the non-volatile memory (NVM) requirements for both NE platforms. Key ONNS data elements are stored in NVM to allow recovery after NE processor reset scenarios. ONNS software is core platform independent software designed to be portable across Lucent network elements, and runs on the VxWorks and Sun Chorus real time OS's.

 

Defined the NN product features including SRLG link exclusion, VPN link inclusion, and detailed route retrieval. Defined the ONNS UNI interface requirements and wrote TL1 configuration support commands.

 

Worked with NN software developers during reviews to interpret ONN systems requirements. Participated in the iterative Object-Oriented RoseRT design methodology process chosen for the ONN project. Mentored new developers on the agile iterative OO design process, involving concurrent requirements development to accelerate the ONN software development. Fostered system engineering / software developer teamwork in the ONN iterative OO development environment, attended and reviewed ONN software designs in 50% of reviews to assure initial design compliance with system engineering requirements.

 

Planned and implemented the initial TL1 system testing to verify SE requirements compliance using the ONN emulator (ONN code ported to a PC to allow testing before NE integration). Defined network test configuration files to facilitate the testing of ONN SRLG and VPN provisioning features. Provided support and testing strategies for ONN software testers. Supported ONN integration with NE software, and was Systems Engineering representative on software problem review board.

Supported ONN partner organizations, customer teams, and customers with ONN emulator demos & presentations describing ONNS operations. Provided field technical support during the Deutsche Telecom LambdaRouter field trial.

 

Lucent Technologies / Bell Labs                                                  August 1999 - July 2000

Systems Verification Test Project leader                                

Major Accomplishments:

System Verification Test Project lead engineer for regression automation on the WaveStar TDM 2.5G Fiber-optic SONET Multiplexer. Formed a team of contractors for Eliassen group (screening & selection of team) for the SVT automation project and provided initial product training on the TDM 2.5G operation. Created the design of an automated regression test platform for the 2.5 Gigabit TDM 2.5G optical cross-connect / multiplexer. Set up dual 2 node BLSR rings for SVT regression testing and automation script development. Planned the optical path switching and fixed test configurations to allow the automated regression platform to be electronically re-configurable into a 4-node BLSR configuration. K-shell scripts are used to test the TL1 control interface to the TDM 2.5G shelf, and control test sets and optical switches via the GPIB bus.

Worked on construction, OC3/OC12/OC48 circuit pack installation, debug, and set up of the TDM2.5G Network Element shelf in 2 node BLSR ring configurations. Verified the Network Element operation via the PC based Craft Interface Terminal (PC-CIT) and wrote K-shell setup scripts to initialize each network element. Defined the test strategy for the automated regression testing, including creation of prototype scripts to demonstrate the process for writing configuration adaptable test scripts.

Wrote K-shell test scripts to implement first pass Test cases for an optical cross connect test plan. Scripts are designed to read test-bed configuration files and adapt to the specific shelf hardware configuration, and automatically step through tests for each optical circuit pack in the TDM 2.5G shelf.

Software Configuration Manager / Release Engineer

Major Accomplishments:

Software Release and software build automation engineer - Wrote automated build scripts and created the source code control / build environment to store, compile and integrate the complete product code base. The build scripts automatically retrieved the source code from the MKS Integrity source code control management system to a NT Server build directory structure and compiled the current code. The scripts built the application code and WindRiver system code with the WindRiver C++ compiler, built the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) code with the TI compiler, and the windows code with the MS-Developer's Studio/ Visual C++ compiler. Integrated product code was built 3-4 times a day and the executable code image was archived upon a successful build for use by developers.

Set up the MS Visual SourceSafe NT server. Set up a parallel build automation environment for the Visual SourceSafe (VSS) source code control management system, and ported the source code from MKS Integrity to VSS prior to engineering SCM conversion. Verified the VSS build environment and provided an initial VSS code database for initial training of software engineering. Set up the VSS code base for the XIOX customer service web site development and source code control of the web site via VSS web shadowing.

The automated build environment utilized a combination of NT *.bat scripts, Cygwin Bash shell scripts, and NT WinAT (cron) tasks to initiate builds 4 times a day with results automatically reported via email. Parallel builds were done to allow verification of the final code in either environment to allow smooth conversion from MKS SCM to VSS SCM.

 

Lucent Technologies / Bell Labs                                                  April 1998 - May 1999

Software Release Manager / Software Project Manager                               

Major Accomplishments:

Set up Software build and Software configuration control processes on the WaveStar Access Multiplexer project that used C++ object-oriented embedded software for a distributed processor transmission control architecture.

Joined the WaveStar Bandwidth Manager project, worked in the Software Development lab verifying new builds, investigating Software/HW problems on the WBM Hardware target system prototype frames. Assisted software developers to learn to verify their code in the 680xx based target environment and set up tools to make lab use easier. Learned the WBM system operation, initialization, and debugged hw problems. Developed a working knowledge of the distributed processor transmission control architecture and the OO software architecture. BWM system is a fiber-optic multiplexer and integrated DACS for T3, OC3, OC12, OC48, and OC192.

Moved to the WBM Software release coordinator job for the MV project effort, responsible for coordinating the software build process to integrate incoming Software modules submitted to ClearCase in solution branches. Coordinating build and test of new BWM software and controlling the integrity of the software main codeline with 2 other software coordinators in Holmdel, NJ. Expediting fixes, tracking the build process, and assignment of DDTS MR's (defects) to appropriate developers. Selecting code submissions to be integrated to facilitate software function rollout. Worked to redefine the software integration process for the current release. WBM Project has >200 software developers and >40 SQA testers in 3 locations. This software coordination is very similar to software project management in some other companies.

Set up Continuus Configuration Management software system for both UNIX server and Windows Client software environments to control software build and release to SQA. Planned and implemented build automation to facilitate nightly builds and rapid turnaround of code changes. Set up QA and CM processes for a series of strategic client/server software projects. Worked with developers to plan code file structure to facilitate SCM, migrated software into CM system, and served as build-master. Wrote build release and distribution scripts to deliver products for SQA system testing. Support of Continuus CM training classes and support and mentoring new users of CM. CM Baselining of project requirements and analysis documents, as well as tech edit support to finalize spec review process. Wrote scripts to support interim manual CM process until developers were on line. PictureTel / Polycom Inc                                                              June 1997 - October 1997

Major Accomplishments:

Project Management of implementation of PictureTel LiveScheduler Client / Server software to internal video conferencing sites for scheduling and control of video rooms.

Championed the implementation project and developed the strategic plan for deployment of LiveScheduler software to schedule video equipment in PictureTel internal conference room sites. Created an evolving multiphase implementation plan to track their changing business needs. Lead system design effort to configure the system utilizing the features and functions of LiveScheduler. Assessed the engineering prototype database and re-arranged the database and its partitions to produce the desired user view and maintain the data security required by users. Implemented planned changes in the embedded Informix database to expand the network and rooms database. Did data verification to assure database integrity.

Did required SCO UNIX 5.02 system administration to setup a secure server with limited application user access, configured the UNIX TCP/IP networking to integrate the server into the PictureTel computing environment, and created user accounts. Wrote shell scripts to make it possible to use a non-UNIX system operator, and to build and backup the LiveScheduler database. Wrote a procedure on how to expand the network and control database to add new video sites at remote locations. Specified the Compaq server hardware with RAID storage for the corporate server.

Designers of telephone switch controller and applications software for the Excel platform (now part of Lucent SoftSwitch group)

Manager of Software Testing & Quality -- Responsibilities include SQA / system testing of new NT-based XNT distributed Switch platform, and Software test planning for the Switch platform which included the Excel Switch fabric, ADS-NT controller, NT database server, and an MS-DOS (VRU) Voice Response Unit. Created unified test plans for existing ADS applications to provide ISO documented SQA testing. Created test plans for the new prepaid cellular debit card application and implemented the Software debug and application testing to qualify the new product for beta release to a nationally known cellular provider. New product champion duties include building systems, loading software, defining system installation requirements, system debug and test, and final SQA system acceptance testing.

Coordinated the installation of the XNT Switch system on the West Coast and supported the system integration and field testing prior to PPC service launch in February '97. Coordinated new feature enhancement requests and definition of new product releases. Worked with the PPC wireless service provider to define feature enhancements for their pilot trial that grew to 2000 cellular customer in 6 weeks. Telecom Opportunity Manager, Telecom & Networks Enterprise Integration Center

Major Accomplishments:

Responsible for T&N EIC engineering project opportunities in the Telephony space (Intelligent Networks, and network management/operational support systems). Business development activities to assist the T&N EIC in the area of responding to Telecom, Networking & Voice RFI & RFP's and convincing customers that the EIC could provide custom software system solutions for the Telecom industry.

Worked with Digital/SPRINT account team to do post-proposal support and pre-sales work with the SPRINT engineering team to refine their NMS Technical Spec and define their requirements for the ATM Switch management and network alarm monitoring system for the T3 mesh network. Worked with 3rd Party Software vendor Objective Systems Integrators - NetExpert Software tools to define modules required and workstation configurations needed for distributed failover operation. Managed two software consultants working on the effort to win this business for Digital. Responsible for engineering quotes and negotiations of project statements of work. $3.5 M. Order received as a result of the business development work.

Telecom Engineering Manager, Telecom & Networks Enterprise Integration Center

Major Accomplishments:

Responsible for T&N EIC engineering projects and programs in the Telephony (Intelligent Networks, communications and network management/operational support systems).

Telecom Segment responsibilities include the following:

·         Management of multiple projects and programs involving design and integration of Hardware & Software systems, Communications drivers, custom HW & Software. Projects involve VAX System V, VMS, and ULTRIX/OSF platforms, and included NT/SCAI Switch computer applications interface, platforms for AT&T NTMOS and BellCore MIZAR systems, AT&T OSCP/DATAKIT connectivity enhancements, and SNET VALX25 SS7/X.25 STP Gateway translator/converter.

·         Worked with Telecom Segment management/Marketing to respond to large RBOC RFP/RFI's as system architect and managed opportunities through the quote review phase, assisted in preparing the Telecom Engineering budget, and managed the sustaining engineering projects and budgets.

·         Coordinated engineering - product / program management interface to assure on-time delivery of projects. Provided System analysis, system design proposals and project sizing estimates for initial Bid / NoBid decisions and scoping of quote & proposal efforts.

·         Mentored project managers and assisted in project management by interviewing and hiring all contractors, wrote contracts and handled relations with contractor personnel agencies as needed. Provided general project expediting and project continuity from start-up to maintenance. Developed Software system test strategies.

·         Produced the Telecom Segment Investment Review Board engineering proposals for FY93 investment, developing strategic plans for platform solutions aligned with TBG product lines (the TeMIP / DECmcc Telecom Network Management platform and DECss7). Planned joint development of TMN 3010 Mediation Devices (MD's) with T&N-EIC/Annecy.

Major Accomplishments:

Responsible for performance management of engineers and project managers in the Telecom group and project staffing needs. Managed assignment of Software/HW engineers and system resources to projects, did performance reviews, goal setting, salary administration, administered training program, consulted on Software & HW projects and did technical reviews of project documents, and reviewed engineering quotes for new business.

Mentored project managers and assisted in project management by interviewing and hiring all contractors, wrote consultant contracts and handled relations with all contractor personnel agencies. Developed system test strategies to maintain quality standards and maintained project-staffing plans.

Managed the initial requirement phase of the AT&T DATAKIT / DECxpress100 project, setting up the project plans for the DXG100 server HW & Software projects and the VMS Client Software, coordinated the functional spec preparation and Top Level Design Specs preparation & reviews.

Major Accomplishments:

Network Support Systems Div., DFMS Product Development Dept., Designers of Telephone Network Maintenance Systems. Responsible for software, firmware, and hardware development of the Digital Facilities Maintenance System (DFMS) product line and an engineering department of 24-30 engineers and technicians.

Departmental responsibilities include the following:

Technical supervision of 12-15 firmware and hardware engineers designing modular microprocessor-based data acquisition units that monitor T1-carrier signal performance, monitor and report alarm inputs, and activate control points. Technical direction for a Software unit manager and 12-15 software engineers designing a Digital VAX-based application software package which provides Telco digital facilities maintenance centers (FMAC) with an operational support system to administer the network of T1 & T3-carrier, fiber-optic trunks and SLC-96 terminal equipment.

Project scheduling, departmental staffing and staff planning, project definition and budgetary control of 2.8 to 3.7 Million in R&D budget. Coordination with Project Management, Marketing Product Management, Technology Services, Product Engineering, Customer Service, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing to get products developed, system tested, and introduced in a timely manner.

Product definition with Marketing for the DFMS product line and coordination and oversight of three system engineers working on the product line specifications and definition. Planning for product release schedules and strategic feature content.

 

BAE Systems / Sanders Associates, Inc.                                    July 1983 - March 1985

Program Management / Project manager - Computer Systems Design Dept.

Major Accomplishments:

Program Manager / Sr. Principal Engineer - Responsible for a program to develop a 2.0 MIPS highly integrated CPU using gate arrays and surface mount technology that can be micro-coded to run both the Air Force standard 1750A and Navy standard AYK‑14 instruction sets.

 

Project manager / Sr. Principal Engineer - Responsible for phase 1 project management of a militarized avionic PDP 11/24 development and technical supervision of 4 engineers designing I/O boards for the MGP‑100 CPU, a bit slice PDP 11/24 emulator running RSX‑11/M and all technicians and support personnel. Project management of the phase 2 development and integration of the entire MGP‑100 team of 12 engineers, 5 technicians, and 4 draftspersons.

 

Hendrix Technologies, Inc.,                                                          Oct. 1979 - July 1983

Engineering Manager / Principal Engineer

Major Accomplishments:

Responsible for new product definition, new product design (both Software & HW), product support engineering, manufacturing test development, and software maintenance. for the definition, design, and development of modules for the TR3 TYPEREADER and design, development, and implementation of the automated test/debug station for manufacturing TR3 modules.

  

Project responsibilities have included: A new intelligent communication interface board to allow existing TR3 programs to run with any OCR; Hardware design and software BIOS for new processor board; Design of computer controlled manufacturing system test/debug stations for automated testing and debugging of TR3 machine, Development of the testing plans.

AT&T - BELL Telephone Laboratories, Inc.               Graduation - March 1977

Member of Technical Staff

Responsible for engineering design and development and testing for several Bell Labs departments.

Major Accomplishments:

Project responsibility encompassed the following areas:

·   Design of all PLL loops of a modular microwave generator for 4, 6, and 11 GHZ Bell Radio systems and coordinated with packaging engineer to integrate all of the microwave modules into a small unit.

·   Development of a precision 50-110GHz millimeter wave delay scanner system for evaluation of envelope delay distortion.

·   Development of a precision transmission test system for 3.7 - 4.2 GHZ Waveguide components.
