SUMMARY OF WORK EXPERIENCE
My work experience has been in analysis, design, and programming of computer software systems for scientific and business applications. Scientific applications include designing and analysis of real-time process control systems, factory automation, computer integrated manufacturing, statistical packages, robotics, communication protocols, device drivers, and graphic display routines. I have performed conversions between different computers, computer languages, and generated computer operating systems. Business applications include order entry, accounts payable and receivable, billing, inventory control, sales analysis, general ledger, credit collection, payroll, manufacturing WIP systems and financial modeling and tax software products. I have designed as well as maintained large database systems including multi-computer databases.

01/2005 to Current:
Developing medical scheduling applications which allows the user to track and schedule patient contact information and sync the handheld PDA unit with the laptop/desktop database. Currently switching software to users new Dell Axion Tx unit.
Benefits: Reduced paperwork and accurate medical coding of contact charges.
Environment: Palm Pilot PDA's using CASL (VB like software).
Additional community service work. Lead the Internet design team to create the Smoky Mountain Beekeepers Web site. Currently moving the site to a new server and getting ready for a Jan 2008 rollout of the new web site and then serve as web master.
10/2001 to 11/2004: Drake Software, Franklin, NC
Developing tax software for tax preparation professionals, CPA’s, EA’s, and Accountants.
Project involved the yearly updating and maintaince of twelve (12) corporate state tax packages.
Programming was done in PowerBasic (which is a MS-Visual Basic competitor) utilizing a series of interrelated federal and state tax databases. Tax return processing software used direct access methods to speed up return processing. Benefit: Software was updated yearly to the current years corporate income tax code for each state and simplified producing multiple corporate returns.

6/2000 to 10/2000: Under contract to Tekelec, Morrisville, NC.
Developing real time telephony software for their Eagle SS7/IP Secure Signaling Gateway product.
Project was an upgrade to display both PSTN and TALI packet information in a data dump format. Benefit: Final version of this upgrade will be used by both the customer suport team and the software developers to visually verify the conversion and routing between PSTN packets and TALI packets has been performed correctly.

2/99 to 6/2000: Under contract to Corning, Inc., Group Engineering Technology (GET).

Developing real time manufacturing software for their new optical fiber manufacturing machines. Additional duties included multiple specialized industrial instrumentation devices in a vapor deposition process. Linear motion controllers as well as system management and network functions. Benefit: Software developed and validated for new instrumentation on newest version Fury machines enabled a timely startup of their new Concord facility.

Computer software and hardware renewal project. Developing new software to function with the new VMIC Motorola 68000 CPI/RTP hardware upgrades. Replicates and enhances the older application software to add increased functionality. Benefit: Software developed and installed extends the life of very specialized optical fiber manufacturing equipment and expands the process data analysis.

Expanding the polyester packout stations barcode readers and application software to read 20 digits data instead of the previous 6 digits. Working with the Y2K team to convert and move the packout system to a new DEC Alpha platform from an older DEC Vax platform. Provided on call support for the plants computer systems. Benefits: Expanding the barcode size allowed better polyster inventory control. Moving the Packout system to the Alpha provided better software performance.

Design & Program of the commercial photo plate division’s automatic order lot allocation needs. Upgrades their manual lot allocation procedure and improves how photo plates are selected from inventory based on rotating stock, using partial count pallets first, maximizing quality matching, special jumbo orders, and customer plate grain restrictions. Benefits included the ability for users to balance the lot allocation to the planned orders before issuing packing order tickets to all packing lines.

4/96 to 2/97: Under contract to Corning, Inc. Optical Fibers International Division, Wilmington, NC. Project focused on technology transfer to Corning’s International Joint Venture in Wales, GB. Duties included upgrading the Level 1 real time manufacturing software, staging plus checkout of new optical fiber manufacturing machines, and interfacing new control instruments. Additional duties included working with linear motion controllers, multiple specialized industrial instrumentation devices in a vapor deposition process as well as system management and network functions for DEC VAX and PDP systems.

12/94 to 1/96: Under contract to International Paper, Memphis, TN. Assigned to enhance the corporate Plant Production Recording system (PPR). The new version of this system will be the standard for all IP paper plants. This system serves as a Data Warehouse for all mill production activities. Financial as well as management decision data is communicated from all the mills to Memphis IS Corporate Data Center. I have been enhancing the Management Decision data collection and reporting of the PPR database to provide sales with online production data reporting.

5/93 to 8/94: Under contract to Horry Telephone Cooperative, Inc. Conway, SC. Horry Telephone is the largest telephone cooperative in the United States. Project focused on system engineering and upgrading the client’s nonfunctional single line subscriber telephone testing system. The test system used Reliance Com/Tec Corp. (RTEC) T-9SX and T-9X testing heads. Structured software was written in PL/I to provide an application program interface (API) level which will be used by both the interactive and batch application programs to report subscriber line circuit and ALIT status.
Environment: Clustered DEC/VAX’s using OpenVMS, PL/I, Fortran, VAX system QIO’s and SYS$ calls, DCL, FMS for interactive screens, and Datatrive for one time reports/updates. Database access to PLANT (current physical plant), CPR (company property records), and BILLING (current subscriber billing) was through keyed RMS files as well as relative(direct) access files.
12/91 to 12/92: Under contract to VULCRAFT, INC., Florence, SC. To develop an automated steel joist quotation system for their K-Series of steel building joist systems. Project included data requirements analysis, database table definitions with normalization, application design documents, project estimation, and implementation. Benefits include simplified, timely, and accurate standard joist quotes that integrate joists, bridging, add-ons, as well as freight costs.

01/91 TO 4/91: Under contract to ITT Rayonier, Jessup, GA. Redesigned the Mill Summary Reporting system to use DECForms and RDB. All data entry and inquiry screens written in DECForms. Designed logical tables and associated indexes to data storage areas. Embedded RDO in COBOL was used for reading, storage and modification of data elements. Interactive SQL was used to define all normalized Schema DDL’s and validate all embedded RDO functions.

12/90 to 12/91: Under contract to Lorillard, Inc., Greensboro, NC. Designed the Operator Tracking System to provide manufacturing supervisors the ability to locate and account for machine operators production tine by machine and shift.

1/89 to 9/89: Under contract to Lithium Corporation of America, Gastonia, NC to convert from large scale A-Series(Burroughs) Unisys to DEC/VAX. Developed EVE and TPU procedures to generate DCL command files. Clients WFL command files, COBOL source programs, and DCL templates were used to generate DCL command procedures.

2/87 to 4/89: Under contract to RJR Tobacco Co., Winston Salem, NC to enhance the new Computer At The Complex(CATC) software system designed for RJR’s new Tobaccoville manufacturing facility. The CATC System is a level-1 Data Acquisition and Control system which is part of RJR’s Computer Intergrated Manufacturing(CIM) systems. The CATC system communicates with three different level-0 machine control micros at the automated cigarette making complexes.
The 120 CATC systems linked with the company wide area Ethernet communications network provides over 2000 operators and supervisors with timely and current production status information.

4/86 to 6/86: Under contract to Burlington Industries, Erwin, NC. Developing the Warp-out Service System(WSS). The WSS was designed to identify the loom, of 350 looms, that had been out of service the longest and assign a warp-out crew to service that loom first. The WSS also provides "Just in Time" management reporting and payroll incentives for warp-out crews.
