NSS Corp.  Bedford, NH                                                                             5/2002 to 10/2002
.Net Software Architect, Mentoring
Hired on part time contract to re-architect Ex$ell and Teller thick-client applications to take advantage of .Net to achieve new functionality and to go after a different target market. The Ex$ell application needed to be moved to a thin-client UI with a robust multi-user server backend so that NSS could start to sell it as an ASP offering. Used .Net Enterprise Architect tools and VS.Net 1.0/VB.Net/CrystalReports.Net/C# for prototyping design ideas.  Rearchitecture of this application required examining functionality at the code and database level ( VB6.0 and DB2 ) and writing an architecture document encompassing the new tools available in the .Net framework and in Crystal Reports .Net. Also included a detailed project plan deliverable so that NSS could ascertain resource loading requirements and project time frames for investment calculations.

The Teller application was architected to achieve a new level of functionality that was unattainable in its existing form.  This application needed to be distributed across a WAN for a large number of branch offices that require near realtime communications between branches and the main office.  Furthermore, this system needed to conform to new banking regulations that were encompassed in the new design, incorporating WindowsServices, distributed remote work queues and WebServices. IBM MQSeries was the basis for distributed queueing.
