Free-lance PC Services – Working from Home - Knoxville, TN    04/04 – Present

Decided to become “semi-retired” following last major contract assignment.  Have been engaged in PC troubleshooting, repair, and upgrading for local users.  Worked from home using hardware and software analysis tools.  Occasional, yet sufficient, business has come from interpersonal networking and referrals.

 

Consultant - Lane Furniture Insustries - Tupelo, MS    03/02 – 04/04

Assumed sole responsibility for converting approx. 450 batch and 75 CICS Assembler language programs.  All applications utilized by the LFI Wood Division were modified and moved from a VSE platform to run on an OS/390 MVS platform.  Conversion involved re-writes of approx. 85 in-house macros, REXX Execs to modify source code, changes in third-party software, and modification of interfaces to the Adabas DBMS.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ Commonwealth Aluminum Corp. ‑ Lewisport, KY    10/97 – 02/99

Assisted all phases of move from VSE to MVS platforms, concurrent with file and software modifications needed to ensure Year 2000 compliance.  Primary responsibility involved all IDEAL programs (online & batch), and included conversion of VSE JCL to MVS proclib & Ideal members for online submit.  Latter function required conversion of onlines using the VSE "RDMEM" command to the new MVS "EXEC1" command.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ First American Bank N/A - Nashville, TN    04/96 – 10/97

Analyzed and documented a stand-alone, PC based Employee Incentives and Teller Performance system written in MicroFocus COBOL.  Made specific recommendations for a complete system rewrite as a Client/Server application to incorporate major administrative changes for 1997, and provided a preliminary functional/data requirements study.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ Westvaco Paper Co. - Covington, VA    08/95 – 04/96

Development of programs and procedures to provide an interface to Corporate-level OEM Accts Payable software (S.A.P.)  Creation and testing of batch programs to convert data to SAP format in holding files.  Development and testing of a CICS/VSE APPC transaction to transfer data via a DTP conversation.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ Kimberly-Clark Paper Co. ‑ Knoxville, TN    07/94 – 08/95

Preparation and testing of programs and procedures to provide interfacing of the K-C Canadian G/L and Ledgers on a CMS/DOS/VSE platform to the US Corporate G/L system residing on an MVS/ESA platform.  Also did some CICS Command level programs for Human Resources Tax Compliance Section.

Preparation and testing of CICS programs to permit Hand-Gun Bar Code scanning of packages too large for the Star-beam Scanners in the packaging and shipping process.  Company had added very large products to their catalog which could not be serviced on the automated conveyors.  Programs inserted packages into the Manifesting system.

Maintenance of Guaranteed Student Loan (GSL) servicing systems - Batch and CICS Command level programs.  Installation and testing of system changes to ensure compliance with Federal Reenactment Legislation of 1992.

Various CICS Command‑level program enhancements to a national system supporting cash advances to the trucking industry (ComCheck).  This system utilized a variety of telecommunications hardware and programming techniques.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ Philips Consumer Electronics ‑ Jefferson City, TN    03/91 – 02/92

Designed, programmed and implemented a CICS Command‑level Correspondence system to produce online Letter creation for the Consumer Information Support staff from canned letter models.  Also redesigned and programmed the Merchandise Return Authorization document using Xerox 4050 Laser Printer DDL/PDL.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ Atlanta Gas Light Co. ‑ Atlanta, GA    10/89 – 03/91

Complete maintenance responsibility for AGL Customer Information System (CIS) subsystems, which included Meter Readings, Bill Calculation, Customer Billing, Gas Appliance Accounting, and Revenue Reporting.  Programs were in CICS Command‑level PL/1 with Assembler subroutines, executing on an MVS/EA platform.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ Bridgestone USA, Inc. ‑ Nashville, TN    04/88 – 10/89

Had responsibility for a CICS message‑switching system which handled all merchandise order processing between 25 Distribution Centers and Corporate Sales & Credit Depts. during a physical hardware move from Torrance, CA.  Monitored transaction routing on system links between System/38 Centers and mainframe 309x/MVS for Remote Order Entry, Credit, Order Fulfillment and Inventory Management.

 

Applications Consultant ‑ IBM Corporation ‑ Atlanta, GA    09/87 – 04/88

Responsible for modifying online print routing programs in newest release of internal Distributed Document Print Facility (DDPF).  Programs coded in CICS Command‑level PL/I and tested via EDF and INTERTEST.

Responsible for installation and testing of McCormack & Dodge (M&D) Fixed Assets software on IBM 3090/MVS, and prior system data conversions from a DOS/VSE platform.

 

Database Administration ‑ National Spinning Inc. ‑ Washington, NC    01/87 – 06/87

Responsible for conversion of applications data from VSAM to IDEAL. Performed normalization and redefinition.  Created various User and Program Views on DATACOM/DD, and provided IDEAL program specifications.

 

Project Leader ‑ Tennessee Valley Authority ‑ Knoxville, TN    05/86 – 01/87

Managed a four‑man CICS team to design, program, test and implement a Nuclear Plant Change Document tracking system.  System design utilized IBM PL/1 CICS programming, VSAM files and a System/2000 DBMS.

Managed 12 programmer/analysts on an IMS DB/DC project to develop and implement Metered Gas Measurement and Billing system for pipeline gas to local gas companies.  Controlled budgeting, scheduling and task management on MVS/XA system, and reported directly to corporate Controller.

Responsible for tailoring a Datacom/DB/DC Equipment Parts Control System (EPCS) as a generalized software package to facilitate marketing the system as an OEM product to other MVS/VSE-based manufacturing firms.
