JOB OBJECTIVE: A full time position in OS/390 / CICS tech support,
as a system programmer or leader.
CAREER SUMMARY: 20+ years of System Programming experience, with a
variety of experiences with CICS and related software.
DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS: I am an experienced problem solver with a wide
variety of OS/390 software. Well-versed in CICS internals, RDO
definitions, SMP/E installation and maintenance, problem
determination and resolution, performance tuning, dump-reading,
region-building, security(ACF2, mostly), CICS exits, CICS to DB2
connection, planning, upgrading, and system products(Abend-Aid/FX,
CA-ACF2/CICS, Xpediter/CICS, TMON, OMEGAMON/CICS). Very competent
with SMP/E, VSAM, COBOL, assembler, REXX, JCL, TSO, SDSF.
Experienced with CICSplex, CPSM, VSAM/RLS, DB2, IMS database creation

of OS/390 system programming, VTAM, SNA, CA1, OPS/MVS, Sysplex,
Bookmanager, SMS. Competent with Excel, Word, MS Project, Windows.
I am systematic and creative, and have created numerous tools to
speed up daily tasks, aid in problem resolution, stress-test new
software, and add quality-control to system programming. As a
consultant, I was frequently shifted to difficult problems, and have
resolved some very difficult storage-violation and performance
problems. I know how to work with application programmers and
operations people, having done both jobs. I know how to 'hit the
ground running', as I have oriented myself to a new organization
frequently. (As an employee of a consulting company I worked in over
20 shops, in 12 years).

in CICS, CA-View(SAR), SYSB, and CA-DRAS. Made performance
improvements. Upgraded Omegamon/CICS, CA-ACF2/CICS, AbendAid/FX,
CA-ENF. Implemented CICS Universal Client in various regions. Built
CICS regions. Advised ACF2 person. Aided MVS person in implementing
Work Load Manager. Cleaned, organized, standardized. On call with
pager 7X24. Maintained documentation. Updated Bookmanager.
Target Corp (1998 to 2000) (retail). In a high availability 7X24
environment, upgraded and/or implemented products (CICS 4.1 to TS
1.3, CPSM 1.2 to 1.3,Abend-Aid/FX, Xpediter, MTPBATCH, SYSJ). As
part of a team, renamed the applids, sysidents, and system datasets
of 35 CICS regions. Also as part of a team, designed and implemented
a methodology for maintaining software for three data centers.
General debugging. Designed an autoinstall program, which was
activated in 150 CICS's. On call in rotation.
Citicorp, SD (2000) (banking). Cobol/CICS development on credit card
systems.
1996 to 1998: National City Corp, OH (banking). Installed and implemented
CICS T/S1.1 and a pilot CICSplex system using VSAM RLS and VTAM
generic resources. Wrote an assembler autoinstall program for the
CICSplex environment for 35 production regions/150 test regions.
Through diligent testing, uncovered a bug in VSAM RLS(APAR OW30943).

years I worked at more than 20 sites in ten states for Dowling
clients. On call (pager) for 12 years.
Some of my significant contributions while at Dowling:
Goodyear Tire, Akron, OH (1992 to 1994): Took over as system programmer
of three production CICS systems after an employee left suddenly.
Upgraded CICS in a difficult situation. Upgraded IMS/DB from 1.3 to
3.0. Redesigned application code that altered CICS control blocks,
preparing for CICS V3. Devised a way to replace vendor software that
required mods to CICS code. Rescued a DISOSS system that had severe
pointer errors in data files. Documented 200 assembler programs and
macros of 'system enabling' software that were previously
undocumented.
Mine Safety Appliance, Pittsburgh (1990 and 'as needed' until 1995):
Resolved nine software bugs in an environment that was experiencing
daily outages during peak sales. Tuned CICS and IMS HDAM databases.
Split one CICS into two CICS's for better performance. Supervised
installation of COPICS, a CICS/IMS application installed with SMP/E.
Installed VPS.
IBM, Owego, NY (1989 and 1990). Wrote a product installation system in
TSO CLIST for installation of MTO/DOD COPICS. Wrote instructions for
technical personnel installing this package.
Logan Aluminum, Russellville, KY (1984) Crash project. This company
needed a production datacenter in six weeks. Installed CICS 1.6,
Total, Panvalet, and related products, while my co-worker installed
MVS, VTAM, 8100 software. Cloned copies of applications running
under older releases of software, and made them work.
Wm Wrigley Company, Chicago (1986). Solved a nightmare CICS storage
violation that was causing an order entry CICS to crash frequently
(2-3 times per day), idling workers and trucks.
Morse Controls, Hudson, OH (1985 and 'as needed' until 1993) Under VSE,
installed COPICS, Panvalet, Tempus Link, Wizard Mail. Did DL/I DBA
work - created DBDs, PSBs, debugged DL/I problems. Installed CADAM
under VM. Modified a VTAM logon screen for customer dial-in over
TYMNET. Modified USSTAB. Added terminals and a controller.
Customized a 3174 controller.
Penton Publishing, Cleveland, OH (1986) Through analysis of tuning
data, identified a CICS/IMS/COBOL application that had a design flaw.
Changing the program allowed client to delay their order for a bigger
CPU by six months, saving $60,000.
1981 to 1984: State of Alaska, Anchorage, Alaska CICS system programming.
1974 to 1980: Four years of operations, and two years of COBOL programming.
