Typical Application

Multi-user, small workgroup (2-20 users) on a local area network with Access secure workgroup (user logon with password) implemented as split application (front-end/backend) model. Typical number of data records per table from 100 to 100,000+.

                Air Crew Duty Log. Track crew duty data of flight crew for FAA compliance and payroll tracking.

Banking/Financial. Rewrite legacy program for desktops for private placements section of large bank. Client information system for financial planning firm.

Commercial Real Estate. Comparison analysis of business property appraisals. Search county-wide database of properties using expanding, dynamic SQL search algorithm, to generate comparison records both for analysis and as source for direct marketing process (build merge table for bulk merge to Word).

Communications. Circuit information and status database for communications center of national credit reporting agency. Extensive use of drill-down techniques to access underlying data for individual data records. Multiple navigation choices implemented to locate desired records for display or update. Time-stamped log files supported for record history keeping and issue resolution tracking.

Corporate Tax Planning. Using financial algorithms from old software, and report examples, develop a true rendition in MS Access with relational model and currency data types for accuracy. Numbers shown as thousands, and rounding algorithm with VBA code procedures provide consolidated reports that can be reconciled with individual company reports. Increased functionality over legacy software to support multi-user and enhanced ad hoc reporting. Application is a multi-user implementation. Corporate structure is groups and companies. Reporting is available for individual companies and groups. Additionally, reports can be assembled by combining companies (either within a group or across groups) and printing ad hoc group reports for analysis. At the top level, groups can be selected to print consolidated reports, or any combination of companies can be selected to form an ad hoc, top level consolidated report.

Employee Review Process. Annual employee review process with passwords and upstream supervisor access.

Hotel Industry. Various group/department level multi-user applications for promotions and customer relationship tracking.

Legal. Client information, multi-user database for class action law firm. Access secure workgroup logon with users in several states updating (online) backend Access database in Dallas. A complex, multi-user application with an extended development effort with most enhancements slip-streamed after the software was in daily use.

Management Consulting. Multi-part performance/goals questionnaire for management consulting firm. Project tracking software for consulting firm in joint development with major airline.

Manufacturing. Multi-user, quote preparation, pricing, and printing application for electronics manufacturing company. Quote items are picked by classification from an inventory of several thousand parts. The program supports both sub-assembly pricing (pull top-level part and program prices all component parts) and miscellaneous installation/assembly parts (pull part program prices any related miscellaneous installation parts).

Manufacturers Rep Organization. Import monthly POS (point-of-sale) UPC (Uniform Product Code) line item sales by location. Compute monthly commissions for individual rep groups covering 2,000+ retail locations with a commission structure based on location and manufacturer's line. Maintain a sales history file for data analysis.

Medical/Healthcare. Prescription lookup, print, and log file capture for E/R use. Provider (M.D.) credentialing program for medical industry consulting firm.

Related Experience

Authored five chapters for the book, Access 97 Programming Unleashed (SAMS Publishing) – Three chapters on VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) and two chapters on ActiveX controls for Access.

Previous PC industry experience: VAR for Informix ISQL (Unix and PC DOS), software development with IBM BASIC (BASCOM), Microsoft QuickBASIC and PDS (Professional Development System) BASIC.
