I am supporting the production environment for materials management and production planning.  My current responsibilities include working on support issues, process improvement and new process introduction.  Current projects include a consolidated chart of account structure and new revenue determination rules.  This is requiring new movement types for production and purchasing.  Creation of new purchase order types and production order settlement.  Working with purchasing and materials management to improve processing and inventory control measures.  New cycle counting process being created and introduced.

I was brought in to create a bookings forecast using flexible planning in SAP release 4.6c. I have created the structures, update rules and requirements to limit order types that populate the structure and all of the background and online tools for executing and manipulating the forecast.   I am responsible for all configuration, coding changes, training materials and training that was required to have this project go live.  I have also created a second structure to track the billings that correspond to the bookings that we are forecasting on.

I was brought in to provide support and assistance in all modules of SAP following a corporate installation.  The primary focus was to be materials management and forecasting.  Sales support for the order handlers based in the United States.  For the last few months the primary focus has been the introduction of a new SAP system from the company that this division is being placed into a joint venture with.  This is an already established and functioning SAP system that we need to integrate our business processes into, as well as recommend configuration changes to support our business needs.

 

Knowledge transfer and training for in house business analyst for the SD and variant configuration proceeses.

 

Create new processes for ABC, Safety Stock and reorder point calculation and update.

 

Create procedures to provide improved KPI measurement.

Position:  SAP R/3 Production Planning Functional Consultant

 

Brought in to provide support to the current user base while in house resources are on a project to implement SAP at a newly acquired division.  Provide configuration knowledge and support to the team responsible for implementing SAP at the new division.

 

·        Provide on going support for production problems and new business requirements.

 

·        Project manager working with the automotive division to define an approach and implement the break up of their current information structure and replace with multiple structures for reporting and forecasting.  This functionality included replacing the standard forecasting model in SAP to support the entry of market intelligence information.  The ability to enter a zero forecast, or subsequently zero a forecast.  Defined our own multiple structure setup to support a faster batch forecasting process while allowing custom disaggregation to the lowest material and sold to combination for final manipulation of the forecast.

 

·        Wrote inbound interfaces for two of the newly created structures to support the copying of data between the reporting structure and the forecast manipulation structure.

 

·        Wrote new requirements to support the unique update requirements that required one field but not the other to be updated based upon the order reason code.

 

·        Wrote all update rules for all structures related to the Automotive forecasting process.

 

·        Created and generated all structures for the Automotive forecasting process.

·        Working with the automotive division to define a new information structure to be used in place of S076 to support the unique requirements of production planning in the automotive supplier industry.  We will be disaggregating the forecast to support deployment based on the quantity from the actual shipping location.

Client:  International Printing Company (December 1999 – Present)

Position: SAP R/3 Variant Configuration, Production Planning and Materials Management Consultant

 

Brought in to continue and correct the implementation of the configuration that had been started in June of 1999.  Additionally work with the current PP team to resolve open business process issues and help the client adapt the very difficult manufacturing process of printing to the SAP system.

 

·        Created custom ABAP programs to query the SAP system and display data in the variant configurator such as on hand inventory for a component within the configurable material.

·        Created function modules in ABAP and Variant Configuration to support the user exit to determine inventory and other data for the configurable material components selected.

·        Create and maintain configurable materials, including definition of classification information requirements.

·        Create and maintain super bill of material for configurable materials.

·        Create and maintain super routing for configurable materials.

·        Work with the user to create characteristics, classification and dependency logic for variant configuration of a printing job.

·        Create characteristics and dependency logic to allow the user to quote a printing job based on a multitude of characteristic data both entered and inferred.

·        Configure the system and master data to support the creation of collective orders for printing jobs that consist of multiple parts.

·        Define the classification data for the paper and ink characteristics to allow the system to determine the proper paper and ink to use based on the users input of final output requirements.

·        Write dependency logic to select the proper materials, press and other machines required based on the users input.

·        Write dependency logic to calculate the quantities of materials required including calculations for waste, both setup and running.

·        Worked with end user to configure the system and master data to support a customized make to stock material master.

·        Training two employees in the processes for creating characteristic’s, classification data and dependencies to support the variant configuration model.

·        Work with the MM and CO team leads to define and configure the proper account postings for all movements in the production environment including goods issues, goods receipts, inventory postings and transfer postings.

·        Work with the MM team to define the inventory process and posting requirements.

·        Create pricing procedures that can augment the pricing determined by SD to allow the person estimating the job to manipulate the price of paper, which can be priced daily.

·        Created many unique “work arounds” to facilitate the demanding requirements of the printing industry.

Client: Truck Leasing Company (September 1999 – December 1999)

Position: SAP R/3 PP / Variant Configuration Consultant

 

Brought in to implement the Variant Configurator and resolve any open production planning issues.  Defined business requirements, defined business processes and wrote scripts to facilitate the end-user in performing their business tasks.

 

·        Create and maintain configurable materials, including definition of classification information requirements.

·        Create and maintain super bill of material for configurable materials.

·        Create and maintain super routing for configurable materials.

·        Work with the user to create characteristics, classification and dependency logic for variant configuration of a truck to be either purchased, leased or rented.

·        Create characteristics and dependency logic to “work around” unique client situations, including old inventory that should be available for searching purposes if any is on hand, but not be displayed during the order processing function.

·        Configured the system to support production and MRP in multiple plants.

·        Work with end user to define requirements for truck purchasing and leasing and rental.

·        Created a process for loading beginning inventory balances from legacy system including documented verification plan.

·        Confirm design, configuration and custom programming for the leasing and subsequent return of trucks and other equipment.

·        Create documentation for inventory processing in SAP.

·        Create documentation for the production process to be used for the purchasing and subsequent upfit of trucks.

·        Work with the end users and in house team to develop a roll out plan for the remaining plants.

·        Work with the MM and CO team leads to define and configure the proper account postings for all movements in the production environment including goods issues, goods receipts, inventory postings and transfer postings.

·        Work with the MM and SD team leads to define a process for returning trucks that had been leased using the legacy system into SAP.

 

Client:  Lucent Technologies – Matamoros, Mexico/Dallas, TX (July 1999 – September 1999)

Position:  SAP R/3 MM Functional Consultant

 

Brought in to be the MM functional lead for the implementation at Matamoros, Mexico.  Prior to getting involved with that project, was asked to come to Dallas TX to help with some outstanding MM issues from their earlier implementation.  Worked on business scripts to document the process and data field updates when converting a material master from make in house product to a purchased or third party direct ship.


Client:  Paint Manufacturer - High Point, NC (February 1999 - June 1999)

Position:  SAP R/3 PP Functional/Configuration Consultant

 

·        Provide end user training for the processing of MRP and evaluation.

·        Production order creation and processing.  Inventory procedures and analysis.

·        Work with IS team and user community to resolve issues uncovered after go live.

·        Write training documentation for use in training users at other plants scheduled to go live in the coming months.

·        Wrote ABAP Queries to track and monitor production order statuses during the day.

·        Reviewed configuration in current environment and plans for future plants for verification and to insure proper forward capabilities are kept open.

Client: Brewery– Milwaukee, WI (June 1997 - February 1999)

Position:  SAP R/3 MM/PP Functional/Configuration Consultant

 

Configured prototype of the ‘to be’ SAP system for proof of concept and demonstration to users to gain their acceptance.  Configuration areas included:  Production Planning; Production Orders; Routings; Work Centers; Bills of Materials; Material Masters; Engineering Change Management; Material Requirements Planning and Long-range Planning.

·        Worked with IS team and user community to define both the ‘as is’ and ‘to be’ functionality required supporting the tracking of production costs in the SAP system.

·        Wrote documentation to support and train both the IS team on configuration tasks and the user community on application tasks.

·        Work with delivery team to design an interface of production information from legacy systems to create and execute production orders in SAP.

·        Work with the delivery team to design an interface of costing information to feed legacy systems.

·        Worked with the user community in identifying solutions for all of their IS needs in the manufacturing/production/distribution areas.

·        Determine user needs and work with them to identify the most beneficial solution through either process changes, configuration changes or programming enhancements with a goal to have these changes not impact current users of the system or future plans for a global implementation of SAP.

Project Lead for Avid Subsidiary Implementation of SAP

·        Begin needs analysis and project scope for converting Ireland and California subsidiaries into SAP.

·        Identify conversion efforts required for data extraction from legacy system.  Identify interfaces to complementary systems that would be needed in conjunction with conversion to SAP.

·        Freight bill back and automated collection of freight charges.  First step was to design and implement an additional screen for the user to enter the actual freight carrier charges during the post goods issue transaction of SAP.  Second phase was to work with an established vendor to automatically collect this information from the various shipping systems being used.

·        Configured the system to support the creation of an approved vendor list using SAP information records.  This list is used to track our sub-contractors approved OEM suppliers.  Wrote ABAP4/Query reports to support the implementation and distribution of the information to our sub-contracting vendors.

·        Worked on script and process flow identification during the final months prior to implementation.

·        Designed and implemented a process for outstanding non-returned spare part orders.

·        Perform monthly costing and closing procedures on the system.  Identified and scripted the process for necessary to perform all phases including cost roll up and release, month end close, calculate variances, calculate work in process and order settlement.  Resolved multiple problems with costs not being updated, in production orders not settling and the WIP value not being posted accurately.

·        Requirements and needs analysis for bar coding within the company.  Began process of identifying vendors for both equipment and software solutions to support bar coding.  Provide specification and requirements for vendors that supply Avid.  Initial plans to include printing of internal labels for Avid material.

·        Automate the process of printing export documentation in SAP.  Including the commercial invoice bill of lading and other forms.  Configured the system to support the harmonizer codes for Avid products.

·        Design and implement necessary fields and activities in SAP to support the implementation of a duty drawback system for Avid imported goods that are subsequently re-exported.

As a functional consultant and programmer worked with many clients to help them maximize their investment in either the GrowthPower MRP II system, or Point.Man ERP system.  Worked with many clients to improve their business processes to work better within the software chosen for their environment.

 

·        Determine customer needs and issue quotes for modifications to meet these needs.  Provide written documentation of all modifications made.  Provide customer support for both custom modifications and the standard product.  Provide project planning and supervise additional resources as needed.

·        Design, program and supervise additional resources in the creation of a data collection system for PointMan.  Modules to be created include shop floor labor, shipping and receiving, material movement and inventory counting.  This system will use C as the language for prompting and validation on the hand held Janus device.  Using Intermec DCM to handle communication with the remote devices a series of C stubs will be written to call COBOL applications and/or data base stored procedures to validate input from the user.  The system will communicate with Oracle, Sybase and Informix relational databases.  The design function also included the designing of any additional table spaces that would be required for storing the collected data.
