Database Operations Sr Manager

  • Successfully integrated geographically dispersed teams into global focused teams providing transparent support of enterprise operational databases.  Databases comprised of VLDB’s, financial, OLTP and scientific application databases on 25+ TB of spinning disk.
  • Built operational efficiencies and capabilities providing 5 9’s availability with minimal day to day operational activities, allowing team members to actively provide value to the business
  • Created an Oracle Center of Excellence that was utilized corporate wide.  As a team we provided training seminars, brown bags, design, development, implementation through to ongoing operational management of the application databases.

Technical Account Manager / Alliance Engineer

  • Created, and strengthened strategic alliances with major account customers and vendors of Sybase corporation
  • Managed several accounts as the technical account manager responsible for the advanced technical support of our major customers.   This involved building trusted relationships both internally and externally to create win-win situations for all concerned with the high priority, high visibility issues that required the attention of the Alliance Engineer (‘gurus’ of Sybase technical support).
  • Able to talk the language of ‘management’, as well as the language of ‘techies’, was a skill that was frequently used to disseminate information up, down, sideways and externally to achieve consensus and mutual understanding of issues.
  • Frequently called upon to assist in Oracle technical and architecture issues when the customer had not only Sybase, but Oracle (the competitor) questions and issues

 

Senior Consultant

  • Successfully integrated ‘competing’ Oracle and Sybase consulting teams, external consultants and in-house database administrators into one operational team at Celera Genomics to ensure operational efficiencies, performance and availability of over 100+ Sybase and Oracle databases on over 30+ TB.  The most critical of all being the revered ‘Human Genome’ database that has been the focus of many scientific and social advances over the last few years.  High availability and performance of the databases that comprised the race for sequencing the human genome was high visibility and high pressure.
  • As Account lead for Sybase at Celera Genomics, built the account from 2 consultants to 14 consultants based largely on dedication for customer service, and personal accountability for the satisfaction of the client.
  • Successfully project managed, and technically contributed to, the complete migration of Sybase databases into Oracle databases and was proactive in ensuring key deliverables were attained and issues resolved during this process.
  • Attended many customer sites performing architecture reviews, implementation, technical architecture, technical assistance.   Many engagements were specific requests for my return.
  • Provided technical presentations for developers and also senior management/executives  to inform them of better, more efficient methods of database design, database usage, database modeling and software development methodologies that would provide better performing applications.

Database Manager

  • Responsible for the specification of hardware, building of the hardware and operating system and the migration and successful implementation of the production servers from various prior software releases.   Performance of the servers as a result of her efforts improved dramatically and she regularly received awards from senior management for her efforts.
  • She also supported and diagnosed problems, trained and identified solutions for the user base as technical support specialist in all areas of the client/server arena including database, applications, networking, hardware and software.

  • Dani was responsible for the successful downsizing of an AS400/RPG11 solution to a client/server solution.     She had primary responsibility for both architecture and systems analysis.   She performed the logical and physical database design, managed and participated in the development and implementation of a full suite of client/server applications using a Gupta SQLWindows/SQLBase solution on a MS Windows/Novell NetWare 3.12 environment.  
  • The applications deployed, and architecture implemented, are still successfully running the company’s business in 2004 (12 + years later).
  • She also managed the Software Development team and the QA/Implementation team ensuring that deployed code worked successfully first time, every time.
