/ DBA
Experience Summary
I
am an experienced DB2 Systems Programmer and applications DBA in a data sharing
and non data sharing MVS environment.
Experience spans mainframe, UNIX, AIX, and PC platforms supporting
PeopleSoft and non PeopleSoft applications.
I am an IBM Certified UDB DB2 V8.1 for z/OS Database Administrator and Solutions Expert DB2 Database Administrator
for Windows NT, UNIX and OS/2.
Experience covers all phases of SDLC (system development life cycle). DB2 technical support roles include project
initiation, planning, development, integration, testing and production
implementation.
IBM
9672, Z900, Z990, Z9, RS6000, INTEL X86, Pentium. Sun E10K,
ES450.
Technical
Experience
q
Perform
installation, migration and maintenance of DB2 subsystems and DB2 related tools
across LPARs using SMP/E. Troubleshoot DB2 problems using monitoring
tools, dump analysis and IBMLink and apply PTF's as needed to correct them. Create and maintain WLM Application and
Scheduling environments. Install patches
for UDB and DB2 Connect on Solaris, AIX and Win NT/2K platforms.
q
Perform
on going systems and application performance monitoring using tools such as Tivoli
OMEGAMON XE for DB2 on z/OS, TMON DB2/MVS and RMF. Diagnose, review and tune application SQL and
provide performance improvement suggestions.
q
Generate
regular reports for performance history collection and performance trend
analysis using accounting and statistics records.
q
Perform
capacity planning at DB2 subsystem, database and application levels. Monitor DB2 subsystem DASD requirements and
ensure adequate space is available.
q
Maintain
system and application batch schedules for DB2 utility jobs using BMC
Control-M.
q
Migrate databases across subsystems to create
working environments for development, test and production. Monitor databases for size changes and make
adjustments accordingly. Analyze
developers' SQL for possibilities of optimization before being promoted into
production.
q
Maintain
all DB2 related objects, including databases, tablespaces,
indexes, tables, views, alias, plans, packages etc, which involved heavy DB2
DDF transaction activities using IBM DB2's distributed architecture-DRDA.
q
Collaborate
with programmers to resolve any test and production problems/issues.
q
Create
and maintain DB2 documentation for standard procedures.
q
Use
various DB2 Explain tools, including Visual Explain, SQL/PA, and generic IBM
Explain facility. Help provide insights into DB2 optimizer-generated access
paths and provide support in interpreting DB2 access paths.
Accomplishments
q
Technical
lead for the DB2 for z/OS version 8 upgrade project of 40 subsystems for the
IRS. Responsibilities include planning, organizing
and performing the implementation of the new version on four z/OS systems, ensuring
the team is meeting its goals, coordinating with other areas impacted by the
new version, ensuring that all system prerequisites have been put in place and
formulating test plans for post-implementation.
Also responsible for scheduling meetings to discuss project issues and
keeping supervisors updated with the status of the project.
q
Enabled
Data Sharing for legacy DB2 test and production subsystems to support increased
real-time activity. Added new DB2
members to data sharing groups.
q
Participated
in fast paced IRS modernization projects in a data sharing environment. Maintain, customize develop and tune large
PeopleSoft and non-PeopleSoft DB2 databases. Provide on-call 24/7 DB2 DBA
support for any production DB2 environments.
Participated in disaster recovery
q
Supported
QMF for Windows product deployment from project initiation, planning and
implementation. Successfully deployed
QMF/Win into all DB2 environments from test to production. Tasks included
defining user security access, designing and implementing DB2 shadow databases
refreshed daily along with all utility JCL for routine maintenance of QMF/W
users. Created QMF for Windows reference
document for DBA's, which explained the initial setup, how to maintain and
location of needed QMF resources.
q
Centralized/consolidated
from ten LPAR/DB2 subsystems into one LPAR/DB2 subsystem. Performed database migration across LPAR's
and capacity planning. Assisted in
re-partitioning the database to achieve optimal performance. Performed extensive tests on DB2 utilities
for best performance with the large volume of data. Created REXX programs to generate JCL for
database maintenance.
q
Installed
DB2 UDB V.8.1 for Windows and required fix packs on three TOS NT 2000
servers. Setup two-way DB2 replication between
two servers. Modified table and index
structures to accommodate replication.
Resized DB2 UDB logs and tablespaces based on
projected capacity requirements.
Reconfigured UDB instances to acquire optimal performance between UDB
servers.
q
Provided
technical support and technical advise for end-to-end
prototype project involving PeopleSoft CRM deployment with DB2 UDB v7.2 for
Solaris. Performed installation and
configuration of DB2 UDB and DB2 Connect.
Assisted with the modification of PeopleSoft database setup scripts for
proper sizing.
q
As
part of a pilot project, installed UDB V7.2 in IBM RS6000/AIX environment,
build all DB2 objects from scratch using UDB V7.2 utilities/DB2 zOS utilities, cross loaded 35 gig. worth of DB2 z/OS data
from IBM UDB z/OS V7 into UDB V7.2 EE/AIX.
