Senior Systems Analyst, Developer
Manitoba Liquor Control Commission
Winnipeg MB
MLCC has called upon Mr. Schalme to provide his systems integration skills to the ERP project. He analyzed the current and new business flows, and developed software modifications to deal with the data flowing to & from the JD Edwards OneWorld Xe (JDE) system. In particular, he made programming changes to MLCC's online order entry Java applet (ATLAS) that would allow for the seamless integration of Legacy data and JDE data. Another project involved disabling the Legacy system's Excise processing, since that functionality was to be replaced by an off-the-shelf package. Recently, MLCC asked Mr. Schalme to perform a last-minute update to the Liquor Industry Information System so it could accept sales and inventory data from JDE.
Critical Success Factors:
- The ability to integrate these three systems into JDE with minimal effort, since their projected life is to be one year.
- Acceleration of the project timeline to meet the milestones established in the ERP project.
Outcomes:
- A sound knowledge of MLCC''s business processes.
- Solutions that seamlessly integrated with the Legacy and the JDE systems. The solutions Mr. Schalme developed did not care where the data came from; they were able to exchange information with no manual intervention.
- Accelerated project timelines.

Senior Java Developer, Systems Analyst
Manitoba Family Services & Housing
Winnipeg MB
Developed a Java reporting engine to replace the functions of a Report Execution System written in Report Workbench, and a Report Distribution System written using PowerBuilder. This was Family Services & Housing's first foray into Java. Analyzed the document flow to produce a solution that met the business needs of the department. A key constraint of this project was to use the Crystal Reports 8.5 runtime engine to generate the reports previously produced by Reeport Workbench.
Critical Success Factors:
- Deal with two different MS Word export DLLs that gave different formatting results.
- Extract Compressed MS Word documents from a 'text' column in Sybase ASE 12.5.
- Given that Crystal Reports did not integrate very well with Java at that time, Mr. Schalme used his system integration skills to develop a report execution and distribution system that utilized a combination of Java, Visual Basic .NET, and PowerBuilder. This system has continued to run smoothly to this day with no problems.
