Babson College, Curriculum Innovation and Technology Group

Create learning objectives and storyboards for learning objects for Babson’s award-winning blended MBA program. Develop technical training for faculty. Babson was selected by EdTech as the winner of the 2006 IT Leadership Award for Pedagogy and IT Practice—Private Institution.

Manager of Online Training and Development/Instructional Designer
Boston University, Office of Distance Education (July 2004-Aug 2006)

Manager of Online Training and Development: Conduct face-to-face WebCT learning management system training. Provide training and documentation to both faculty and staff for new technology such as Impatica and Horizon Wimba Live Classroom.  Designed and authored Mastering Online Course Development, an online course for faculty developing an online course for the first time, and Mastering Online Facilitation, a two-week online course required for new BU online facilitators. Manage the instructors of this course. Created faculty and student WebCT reference manuals, as well as orientation for new online students.

Instructional Designer: Work closely with faculty, media developer, and graphic designer to develop highly interactive, academically rigorous online courses.  Provide faculty with leadership and instructional design guidance throughout the development process.  Developed a series of templates, tools, and processes to streamline the development process for faculty and instructional designers. Presented these tools and our project management process in a presentation called “The Development Toolbox: An Integrated Design and Project Management System” at conferences in the US and Europe.

Co-Founder, Hill Country Outdoors (Jan 2000  - July 2004)

Founded and managed Hill Country Outdoors club (www.hillcountryoutdoors.com) a for-profit outdoor adventure and social networking organization with nearly 1,000 members in Austin, Houston, and Dallas. Managed marketing and operating budgets as well as a small paid staff and dozens of event coordinator volunteers.  Oversaw membership acquisition and retention and coordination over 90 events monthly.  Managed the design, development and implementation of proprietary web-based membership management and event registration system, which became a separate business.

Co-Founder, Hill Country Technologies, LLC (April 2000-July 2004)

Launched GoClub (www.goclubexe.com), an Internet start-up providing organizations with member management, event registration, and communication tools. Worked closely with web and database developers during all phases of the development process, from designing product specifications and usability to testing and quality assurance. Wrote web content as well as marketing material, online help, and user manuals. Trained sales staff.

NextLink Telecommunications: Developed training materials for national Siebel rollout, including Online Help and Instructor-led Training materials. Synthesized information from subject matter experts and developers, analyzed business process and audiences, and developed business process flows.  Participated in User Acceptance Testing, Train the Trainer, and Super-user training sessions.

GTECH Corporation: Synthesized information from a variety of sources including hands-on experimentation and testing, functional specifications and subject matter experts; developed outlines and content sequencing; took screen captures; and wrote comprehensive documentation and on-line help systems for lottery software using FrameMaker, RoboHELP, and Word.

Wrote training documentation, including user guides, job aids, CBTs, and exercises for large-scale system implementations, including numerous Peoplesoft projects. Analyzed audiences to determine abilities, skill levels and job processes; Worked closely with trainers and subject matter experts to set learning objectives; Developed instructional design documents, project plans and timelines. Served as lead writer on numerous projects and as project manager for JP Morgan project.

Lecturer

Taught Basic English Composition and Research and Critical Writing. First of UTEP English faculty to teach in a computerized classroom. Presented a training seminar entitled “Teaching in the Computerized Classroom,” to UT El Paso Teaching Assistants.  Presented a number of scholarly papers at teaching conferences throughout the Southwest.
