Help for Email Address Options

E-mail Address: There are two entry fields for email address. One for internal use by the Guild and one that is posted in your profile page. The internal email address is kept private and is used only by the Guild for communications with you. We must know how to get in touch with you for automated invoices and notifications. Therefore, the internal email address is a required field. Use the standard E-mail address format.

Prospective clients must also be able to get in touch with you and providing a public E-mail address is generally the best way to do this. If you do not want to expose your personal E-mail address to the general public, you can use the "email-back" option described below or arrange for a proxy E-mail box from your access provider. You can also "slow down" automated spam E-mail by adding modifications such as "Jones NoSpam @aol.com" which can easily be removed manually by a perspective client but cause problems with automated emailers.

The ScGuild offers three options to display your email address on your profile page.

  1. Show the private email address. This is the one that the ScGuild uses to communicate with its members.
  2. Show an alternate Public email address. You can enter any email address that you want to be exposed to the public.
  3. Do not show any email address. Require clients to request the contact information ScGuild and it is emailed to them.

This third option prevents your email address from being exposed where Internet robots can scan the pages and extract it for spam email list. Any prospective client must click on a link to a page where they must enter their own email address. Your contact information will then be emailed to their email address with a CC to your public email address. The email address provided to the client will be your "public" email address. This email also includes all other contact information and basic information to provide some context for the client.

The ScGuild does not retain the client's email address or use it for any other purpose.

In addition to preventing spam, the email-back option provides you with the email address of someone that is interested enough in your resume to ask for your contact information. The CC email is provided to you so that you will know that your information is being distributed. You do not need to take any action. However this is a hot lead. You may use it to contact the prospective client for follow up if you want to be aggressive in your marketing.

Keep in mind that to be affective at preventing spam, you must not display your email address on your resume. Add a link on your resume that points back to the profile page for contact information.
