Acted as principal player in coordination with LachNet in migrating from PAYCHEX payroll service into the payroll module of OSAS 7.5, including integration with other systems, G/L allocation modifications, and customized reporting. Mined PAYCHEX reports to populate OSAS tables.

 

2006-2009 Database Administrator / Programmer and Network / Phone Manager �

St. Paul Linoleum & Carpet Co., Eagan

The in-house go-to person for all design, programming, modification and maintenance of programming enhancements for projects relating to a heavily customized ASG package and a modestly modified OSAS 6.5 installation. Programmed in three core languages: BBj, VPro5 and Flex. Extensive print formatting development using UnForm. Provided remote access support for users in half a dozen locations in four states. Also, the person the owners and everyone in the company went to for purchasing questions, computer support, and wide-format printing support. Monitored the systems to prevent everything from down time to lawsuits to viruses and spam. Provided direct end user PC support and managed vendors to administer a PC network (30+ PCs) and five servers (Windows + Linux). Support VSI-FAX installation. Administered and performed adds, moves and changes for an Avaya phone system. Designed a new module and began implementing a web-based interface for a legacy accounting system. Extensive use of vi.

 

1992-2006 Database Program Analyst � Designed Business Systems, Minnetonka

Served as a database designer, programmer, and UNIX systems consultant for over a dozen mid-sized companies (primarily distributors). Modified and customized accounting packages (MAI Basic IV / ASG and OSAS). Performed system conversions from proprietary machines onto UNIX systems (SCO, AIX, RedHat Linux). Implemented Year 2000 modifications for legacy systems. Designed, programmed and maintained an inventory delivery module. Extensive graphical print formatting development using UnForm. A fair amount of scripting in perl and UNIX scripts. Support VSI-FAX installation. EDI implementation. Extensive use of vi. Some implementation of sed and awk.

 

1991-1993 Novell Network Administrator (full and part-time consulting) � US West, Mpls

Handled issues from network installation to Procomm scripting to creating a Microsoft Access helpdesk application to addressing bugs with Apple software installations for dozens of users in half a dozen offices.

 

1989-1990 Donor Correspondent � The Hunger Project, San Francisco

Wrote and sent out all letters to donors, ranging from tailor-made to form letters. Implemented the most advanced merging and scripting / automation features of WordPerfect. Managed teams of volunteers.

 

1987-1989 Novell Network Administrator � The Hunger Project, San Francisco

Was trained from scratch and brought to the level of administering and performing adds/moves/changes for a Novell network, building it from five up to forty-five computers; laid out and terminated new CAT5 cabling; administered the phone system; worked with teams of volunteers.

 

1985-1987 Operations Manager � The Hunger Project, San Francisco

Managed all logistics for an office of fifty plus staff, a van and a warehouse.
