OBJECTIVE

I want to increase user comprehension of electronic maps, while preserving the paper ones. I hope to set an example for my peers through great work, excellent attention to detail, and considerable patience.

SUMMARY

Seventeen years in geographic information systems and computer aided drafting. Have used ESRI, Bentley, Trimble GPS devices, Autodesk, Intergraph, Google Earth Pro, and MapInfo products. Also, once employed as a transportation and land use planner. I have worked on city, state, and federal CAD and GIS projects in both the public and private sector. My subject matter expertise is mainly in traffic planning and engineering, railroad surveying, and electric power transmission and distribution.

GIS Consultant

Alexander Open Systems - Addison, TX - January 2015 to March 2015

 

GIS system architecture and design for an ESRI Silver Partner, with an emphasis on sales of GIS services in the Dallas and Fort Worth region. Unusual products included NG911, E911, and life safety systems for schools and businesses, integrated with Cisco VOIP phones and cameras. Solved problems for state agencies, counties, police departments, and the private sector.

GIS Developer

Contract Land Staff, LLC Sugar Land, TX - July 2014 to January 2015

Python scripting and REST based web map service updates in ESRI ArcGIS 10.2.2 Desktop and Server for a medium sized right of way consulting firm serving the pipeline industry and electric utilities. Updated an ESRI Java Flex based web map viewer and ArcServer ecosystem of five servers to support 150 map services for right-of-way projects across the United States. Clients included Kinder Morgan, Energy Transfer, TransCanada, Sunoco, Buckeye, and AEP. Map services, geodatabase services, and feature services were updated nightly to reflect the edits of 16 people based on input from over 600 field agents working with landowners. Mobile maps were supported on phones and tablets for constant use to ensure data quality.

FME GIS Developer

Shell - Houston, TX - March 2014 to June 2014

Contracted developer through Accenture and Iconma LLC in a software architecture group for an unconventional shale oil data project. FME is an ETL software program for converting over 400 different GIS, CAD, and database formats. Completed transition of ESRI ArcGIS and LandWorks data to SQL Server Integration Services for logging. This was accomplished using REST and SOAP on FME to create transformations and user email alerts to map editors. The project was within a 63 person data integration project in an Agile scrum workflow. Tools included Visual Studio for C# scripting.

GIS Specialist

Navy Region Midwest, federal contract through Capstone Corporation - Naval Station Great Lakes,

IL - November 2012 to March 2014

Cartographer and GIS lead at Navy Region Midwest Regional (Emergency) Operations Center. Had responsibility for public safety emergency response data maintenance and disaster planning maps. Used Visual Fusion for Silverlight for web maps, a SharePoint repository for data storage, and ESRI ArcSDE to share data with the civil engineering and GIS functions of the Navy.

Geospatial Analyst, United States Air Force, Air Combat Command

AECOM Technology Corporation, federal GeoBase contract holder- June 2008 to November 2012

June 2012 to October 2012: Dyess Air Force Base Geographic Information Systems Analyst, which was very similar to Whiteman AFB below.

July 2011 to June 2012: Database Operations Lead for Air Force Central Command domestic headquarters at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC. Responsible for ArcServer and ArcSDE maintenance, user support, and interaction with other database and system administrators. AFCENT directly supports airmen at several Air Force bases in the Middle East and Asia. We use and answer questions about ArcGIS 10, AutoCAD Map 3D, and AutoCAD Civil 3D as well as aerial imagery, airfield obstruction, and aircraft parking software.

July 2008 to June 2011: Whiteman AFB GIS Analyst on base at Knob Noster, Missouri. Created electronic maps, provided ESRI and Trimble GPS user assistance, and provided relational database maintenance at Whiteman Air Force Base just east of Kansas City. Air Combat Command Geobase used a mixture of Bentley MicroStation, AutoCAD Map 2010, and ArcGIS 9.31 from ESRI running on ArcGIS Server in a multiuser relational database via ArcSDE. Oracle 10 was also used.

Electrical Distribution Designer

Temporary project employee for distribution design supporting a new substation planned at the former Stardust Casino and future Echelon Resort in Las Vegas using Autodesk Utility Design 2006. Also worked on substation wiring revisions for Lousiville Gas and Electric using AutoCAD 2004, Commonwealth Edison with AutoCAD 2000, and another design project involving MicroStation v8.

Outside Plant Technician

Northwind Technical Services - Delafield, WI - February 2007 to April 2007

Drafting and measuring of cable television and fiber projects proposed as additions to electric power lines. Used Osmose Ocalc to determine sag, tension, guying, and capacity of power lines before and after proposed additions to the pole. Sought permits for guy wires from municipal public works departments.

GIS Technician

Ideas on Paper - Nashville, TN - January 2006 to January 2007

GIS Technician contracted by a small MBE to work at the Nashville Electric Service GIS and Mapping Department. Added many new subdivisions from AutoCAD files and also scanned and added subdivision data from paper maps. Provided ArcGIS 9.1 and IBM CICS mainframe data entry and quality control, mainly on multifamily housing addresses. Edited maps and mainframe to reflect power poles that had been looked at in the field to see if pole numbers had fallen off and whether each pole had secondary, light, or phone attachments.

Drafted in MicroStation on important Norfolk Southern railway bridge and track projects. Copied and scanned bid sets for many short line railroads within Tennessee. Detailed office buildings in AutoCAD.

CAD Technician

Tractor Supply Company/Office Team - Brentwood, TN - June 2005 to July 2005

Responsibilities

Used both AutoCAD versions 2000 and 2004 LT to detail four successive versions of 70 store remodeling projects. The purpose was to expand the equine and clothing departments in these stores. Technician helped a full time CAD expert, the store planning department staff, and visual merchandisers deal with the project planogram and architectural workload.

Updated electric utility system maps using ArcGIS version 9.0, AutoCAD 2004 and Autodesk Map. Revised electric utility substation drawings in Bentley MicroStation v8, along with associated scanned drawings using Bentley I/RAS B. Clients included National Grid, Puget Sound Energy, and the City of Banning, California. Technician was sent on loan to Florida with short notice to supervise cleanup of hurricane debris for the City of Orlando.

Detailed box girder bridges for western Tennessee highways from scratch using MicroStation J. Revised bridge plans according to comments from engineers and hydrologists.

GIS Analyst

Contract employee at American Transmission Company in the real estate department. Finished mapping of high voltage electric power lines in northern Michigan and Wisconsin using ESRI ArcGIS 8.3 and aerial photographs. Helped reduce the workload for a web mapping guru, and loaned to Madison area office to help with MicroStation CAD.

Data Services Foreman

Osmose Utilities Services - Springfield, IL - February 2002 to June 2002

Collected GPS data in the field for Ameren UE, a large power company based in St. Louis. Data was about electric poles and the attached equipment from the power, cable, fiber optic, and telephone companies. Worked in remote rural areas alone with a Trimble backpack GPS to provide map data to data dictionaries, which were then uploaded nightly to Buffalo GIS staff via FTP.

Assistant Transportation Planner

Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Council of Governments - Kelso, WA - April 2001 to February 2002

Assistant to regional transportation planning organization for both federal and state efforts to promote intergovernmental agreements on how to best spend transportation tax dollars. The use of highway, rail, pedestrian, and bus funding in southwest Washington required agencies to rate projects in order of priority. Responsible for leadership within five rural counties alongside existing planning manager; personally responsible for determining urbanized area extent of Longview-Kelso, Washington/Rainier, Oregon metropolitan area. Trained in TMODEL traffic planning software.

Draftsman for traffic volume and flow studies on behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Transporation, Missouri DOT, Meijer, SuperAmerica, and other clients. Loaned by Milwaukee to draft at the Denver office on a successful bid for Interstate 25 and light rail expansion. Drafting lead for Root River watershed flood control study by Parsons Engineering Science, on behalf of Wisconsin DNR and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sanitary District. Helped fix problems with ITS system and loop detectors on Milwaukee freeway system by checking actual speeds of vehicles with radar guns as part of a team.
