Objective
To
obtain a position where I can apply my broad range of skills in software
development to the client’s needs.
Software
Development Experience
- Working
on proprietary commercial products, and continuing training in new
technologies (e.g. XBRL, Haskell, etc.) 2014-Present
- “Advancing
Excellence” Nursing Home Quality Campaign Web Site, CFMC, Colorado,
2013-2014
The Colorado Foundation for Medical Care (CFMC) contracted with me to
build a website which gathers and generates reports for a nursing home’s
statistical data. (This is major upgrade to the site I built for them in
2005, noted below).
No existing website framework was used. A separate design firm provided
HTML templates, CSS and some of the JavaScript. My role included setting
up the source control (Mercurial and a BitBucket.org repository), writing most
of the ASP.Net code (Web Forms and C#), stored procedures (MS SQL Server),
transforming the HTML templates into .aspx files, and refactoring and extending
the CSS and JavaScript provided by the design firm. The front-end
JavaScript libraries used included RequireJS and JQuery.
I also wrote a separate extract/transform/load (ETL) program to transfer
data from an existing SAP Advantage database into an SQL Server database.
I believe the site is currently used by most, if not all, nursing homes in
the U.S.
- Several
Technical Reviews of RFPs submitted to CFMC, Colorado, 2012
CFMC issues Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for web sites they build.
Several times CFMC contracted with me to conduct technical reviews of the
RFP responses. My reviews covered the suitability of the vendor’s
proposed technologies.
- Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) – Dynamically
Query-able Website Design, CFMC, Colorado, 2011-2012
CFMC contracted with me to build a website that allowed consumers to
choose a nursing home in Colorado based on a number of search criteria.
My role was essentially the same as in the “Advancing Excellence” project
noted above. I set up the source control, and wrote most of the
ASP.Net/C# code, JavaScript, and SQL Server stored procedures. I also
integrated Google Maps capability into the site.
The site was delivered to CFMC’s client, CDPHE, but for unknown reasons
they chose not to deploy it.
- Patterson
Companies, Eagan, MN, 2005-2009
At this time, Patterson developed all of their IT software in-house. They
contracted me thru a third party to work on their Customer Service System
(CSS), which is a distributed desktop application written in Borland
Delphi that connects to MS SQL Server.
My work involved writing Delphi code and SQL Server stored procedures.
Two major tasks I accomplished were to integrate automated sales tax
software systems into CSS for Patterson’s European subsidiary (Homecraft),
and their U.S. subsidiary (Sammons Preston Rolyan).
- Nursing
Home Management Web Site, CFMC, Colorado, 2005
CFMC contracted me thru a third party to build a website which gathers data
and generates reports for a nursing home’s statistical data.
Like the other websites I’ve built for CFMC, my responsibilities included
setting up source control (Borland StarTeam), and writing a majority of
the code (Borland Delphi.Net, ASP.Net, JavaScript) which talked to an SAP
Advantage database.
- FLIR
Camera Surveillance System, Minimax, Eagan, MN, 2004
Minimax contracted with me to extend the software used to manage the video
data transmitted thru a distributed FLIR camera-based surveillance system.
My role consisted of extending the server and front-end software. The
server was written in Borland Delphi, which talked to a MySQL database
server. The front-end consisted of ActiveX controls (written in Borland
Delphi) embedded in an Internet Explorer browser.
- “Stakeout”
Electrical Infrastructure Management System, Minimax, Eagan, MN, 2004
Minimax contracted with me to extend their “Stakeout” application. The
app was written in Borland Delphi, and used an in-house database format.
My role consisted mainly of UI improvements.
- “FarmWin”
Farm Management System, Morris, MN, 2003
A farm management system written in Borland Delphi, and using a Paradox
database back-end. The owner contracted with me to improve the UI and add
several new reporting modules that allowed the user to forecast different
types of asset depreciation.
- Several
other software projects, including employee scheduling, optimized data
entry, and a government planning and zoning application. 1995-2003.
Criminal
Justice Experience
Morrison
County Sheriff’s Department, MN, 1986-1999. Employed part time in the
following roles:
·
Patrol Deputy (class B license).
Duties included routine patrol, answering routine and emergency calls for
service, traffic patrol, warrant and civil process service, criminal
investigations, court testimony, prisoner transport.
·
E911 Dispatcher. Duties included
answering non-emergency and emergency (911) calls, dispatching appropriate
resources, radio communications between several departments (police, fire,
ambulance), being a central point of management for emergency situations.
·
In-house I.T. Staff. During most
of my employment, Morrison County did not have a centralized I.T. department –
separate county departments handled their own I.T. needs. I filled part of
this role for the sheriff’s department. I installed and configured computers,
wrote software, and even pulled coax network cable and soldered 10Base2
connectors.
·
During my experience at the
sheriff’s department I gained a great deal of experience with the CJIS, MINCIS
and NCIC systems, along with IBM 3270 terminal software.
