Our greatest accomplishment is Continental's Main Web site
We have replaced Continental Airlines' dependancy on Microsoft's Expedia engine
and completely recoded the website in house.(Using first Visual Basic 6.0,
Active Server Pages and SQL Server 2000 as well as terminal emulation packages.
Later completely porting the entire code base to C# and Asp.net)
A third of Continental's revenue is generated through our booking engine
and flight interaction code. Average online sales through our
engine total $3.5 billion a year.
The site currently consists of thousands of aspx pages and dozens of dlls.
Originally a small team of four we have grown to a team of twenty.
I'm currently responsible not only for my availability and flight code base
but also lead a team of four other developers managing and guiding them with their
own deliverables and interacting with our business groups on many high levels.
We have to maintain 99.8% availability and have over 35,000 attached users at any given time.
First American Title Senior Programmer/Consultant August 1997 - February 1998
At First American I was one of the lead developers for a client/server
Internet based application using Visual Basic 5.0 Active X
Components and Active Server Pages. I ported First American's main
ordering application for use over the Internet and dramatically
redesigned the appearance and functionality to reflect a thin-client
concept. I have also developed the application for tracking and
printing the orders the above application produces over the Internet
as well.
In addition I spearheaded development of an Audit Rule engine
encapsulated in a Visual Basic 5.0 DLL and tied it to all of their
existing apps.
American Express Information Services Senior Programmer/Consultant December 1996 - August 1997
At American Express I was the lead developer for a client/server
application called Audit Manager which I authored from the ground
up. (See "Recent Projects" below.) The release has finished QA and
is in the process of Deployment.
During development I was responsible for maintaining my SQL Server
database and writing my own Stored Procedures for the application. I
developed their system of object modeling for data access which
American Express Information Services is using in their shops across
the country.
Since the release of Audit Manager, I have been given the
assignment of a component called Command Center for the new
release of the Expense Suite of products.
Hunting Leopard Incorporated Programmer/Consultant May 1997 - July 1997
For Hunting Leopard I was contracted to build an application for the
Freight Forwarding Industry. (See "Recent Projects" below.) The
project was completed and deployed. It was tied to an Internet
Information Server which clients checked on the status of their
shipments on the Internet via a Java Application. I wrote the Visual
Basic front end from scratch providing me with solid Visual Basic 5
Enterprise Edition experience.
Stewart Title Senior Programmer/Analyst April 1996 - December 1996
I was one of the top developers for Stewart Title. My focus was
primarily 32-bit Visual Basic 4.0 development for a client/server
application that will encompass a real-estate transaction from start to
close. I was also assistant DBA to our SQL Server 6.0 database.
Which provides on-line data to partners across the country.
I was leading the implementation of the very latest in object-oriented
technology with class modules that encapsulate our application's
access to the database using the Remote Data Object features of
VB 4.0's Enterprise Edition.
The Chameleon Group Senior Partner/Developer January 1994 - April 1996
For two years at The Chameleon Group I established a business that
spans the full cycle of application development. From initial
consultation with the client to delivery of a final build and customer
support. I am responsible for tracking and maintaining our
businesses' daily activity along with another senior partner,
procurement of clients and contracts, development, debugging and
client training for developed applications.
Continental.Com (Internet ECommerce)
.NetFrameworks, C#, VB 6.0, SQL Server 2000 and 2005, ASP, Asp.net,
JavaScript and VBScript
Featured Fares (Internet ECommerce) (Continental Airlines)
This application presents to the public Continental's
sale fares. For many different travel cities and dates.\
VB 6.0, SQL Server 7.0, ASP, JavaScript and VBScript
This project represented our advancment in building and deploying
ecommerce systems in house at the airline.
COOL Travel Specials (Internet ECommerce) (Continental Airlines)
This application is sells distressed inventory that would
otherwise go unsold. We sold anywhere from $75,000 to $150,000 in
tickets each week and was continental airline's first attempt at an
in house ecommerce site
.
Remote Order Entry v 1.0 (Loan Document Generation and Delivery)
This application was a Visual Basic 5.0 Client/Server app that I
created for use over the Internet using Visual Basic 5.0 ActiveX
Components and Active Server Pages. Bleeding-edge technology
was used to recreate the dynamic, user-defined screen layouts over
HTML. Client and Server-side components were used extensively to
create a robust and modular application.
Audit Manager v 1.1 (Expense Auditing Tool)
This application is part of a suite of products called the Expense
Suite. It was authored in Visual Basic 4.0 and accesses a SQL
Server version 6.5 database as well as a stand-alone version using
Sybase's SQL Anywhere.
The data access was also handled by encapsulation in class
modules, which were eventually deployed for use across the entire
suite of products.
Shipment Manager! v 1.0 (Freight Forwarding Tracking)
Developed a Visual Basic 5.0 Enterprise Edition Application that had
a SQL Server 6.5 backend from inception to deployment. The
interface's data access was achieved via class encapsulation for
future scalability and ease of maintenance (all of the SQL calls were
located in these class modules). Extensive use of object-oriented
programming was used to create a modular app that would leave the
client virtually unlimited reuse of the code for future expansions.
SureClose v 1.0 (Real Estate Transaction Tracking)
Released the beta of the project September 1996. As mentioned
above, SureClose is a large-scale client/server utility that enables the
user to handle all aspects of a real-estate transaction electronically.
The SureClose system can order Title, Flood and other services
electronically as well as route any documents to the various parties
involved.
SureClose is a VB 4.0 32-bit app that accessed SQL Server 6.0 as
its database engine.
I have been one of the lead developers on the project and also help
maintain 16-bit legacy code for which I have developed out of
process OLE automation servers.
