Hourly Payroll Gross Up

Redesign, Development, programming and documentation a soft coded, rules based, union payroll gross calculation module to interface with J. D. Edwards World Payroll Module.  The modular system was designed to have heavy integration into J. D. Edwards utilizing Action Code and Business Unit Security; J. D. Edwards Menus; J. D. Edwards Utilities for lookups; etc.  After calculating the gross payroll, the system writes out records to the J. D. Edwards World Payroll transaction file.  The system utilized a rule interpreter, which was designed to work on a multi-iterative basis such that each employee/day/rule type combination could run concurrently through different threads (reducing the overall processing time required).  To optimize the system for speed a database server was designed to receive the output transactions from the interpreters and write the transactions out to disk.  The rule interpreter and server programs were designed from a “BLACK BOX” concept where the base structure of the system, once stabilized would never have to be changed.  The design provided for modifications and additional rule values through the use of “Stored Value” exit programs, which were called on a soft coded basis as required.  Each stored value extension calculates a single value and that result is placed into a user index for future retrieval by the system.  The new design provided an easier and more manageable approach to a system, which inherently requires maintenance at each contract change.   In many instances the payroll department will be able to handle the new changes without I.S. involvement.  I.S. involvement is limited to writing simple stored value exit programs.

International Total Services, Inc. - December 1997 thru May 1998

Service Billing System

Design, development and document a Service Billing and Contract Administration System to interface with J. D. Edwards World Accounts Receivable Module.   The client had reviewed J. D. Edwards modules and determined that they were insufficient to their needs.  The new modules utilized a soft coded approach to resolving the varied report and contractual obligations imposed.  When entering the contract the reports required would be selected from a soft list.  These soft selections and contract types would then determine how the system generated invoices. The system utilizes triggers to update the labor billing information from the historical payroll database when an addition is performed, allowing the labor to be billed in a timely manner.
