Consulting Engagements:
Consulted with Sysco on developing a Data Architecture strategy and team to take ownership of the various data modeling efforts and integrate data models and data dictionaries into a central enterprise repository. Conducted work sessions to develop master data (MDM) analysis. Provided an assessment of current skill sets and knowledge of data architecture. Developed a detail Data Architecture Strategy and Implementation Guide. Developed a Data Modeling Handbook of Sysco standards and procedures. Conducted a 3 day data modeling class for the Data Architecture team. Conducted a 2 day data modeling seminar for various SME organizations. Conducted a 2 day training class on Erwin. Mentored the team during their first few modeling efforts focusing on facilitation and advanced modeling concepts. Established cross-function enterprise data standards, data stewardship and governance program.
Project Manager for the Achievement Reporting and Innovation System (ARIS). ARIS is an $80M project that is a first-of-its-kind data management system that provides detail information about student performance and progress to New York City educators and families. ARIS also gives educators a variety of collaboration tools including, virtual team rooms, blogs, discussion threads, knowledge content management which help teachers and principals share tips on tracking specific problems, as well as information on effective instructional practices.
Responsibilities included the management of vendor relations (IBM Global Services), risk, schedules, budget, invoices, expectations, scope, and stakeholder relationships in an agile iterative development.
Project Manager for Texas Department of State Health Services. Managed a $5M project to facilitate collaborative substance abuse and mental health treatment thru-out Texas behavioral health providers. Managed the analysis of documentation and transmission of clinical information through electronic health/medical records (EMR). Analyzed current workflow processes related to patients and providers and identified key problems and solutions. Helped introduce Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Rational Unified Process (RUP), and an agile iterative development to the organization. Facilitated the Business Process Reengineering to consolidate 2 agencies. Assisted the agency (DSHS) in implementing the new project management methodology (Texas Project Delivery Framework) from the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) and the appropriate governance procedures. Responsibilities included the management of resources, risk, schedule, budget, expectations, scope, and stakeholder relationships.
Contracted at the Energy Reliability Commission of Texas (ERCOT) as a project manager in the PMO organization. ERCOT manages the electrical grid throughout Texas. Managed 5 concurrent projects, which included grid congestion management, provider performance monitoring, topology estimation, and thermal limit calculations.
Developed the Enterprise Conceptual data model, subject area logical models, data dictionaries, and reverse engineered physical schemas. Worked with executive management in becoming Sarbanes-Oxley compliant. Organized and implemented an Enterprise Data Architecture Team. Facilitated workshops with executive management to determine the vision and role the Enterprise Data Architecture Team will play in the organization. Developed the strategy, procedures, conventions, and standards for the team. Implemented the Enterprise Corporate Information Factory approach with an Operational Data Store. Trained and mentored staff in all aspects of data modeling.
Worked with executive
management and business leaders in an enterprise wide Business Process
Reengineering effort to migrate their Oil & Gas regulatory systems from
mainframe to open systems following Zachman Framework methodology for
reengineering and analysis, and RUP methodology for development. Worked with
business subject matter experts to gather requirements for the Enterprise
Integrated Data Model. Worked with business project teams of the Oil & Gas
Division to develop and implement change management action plans for new
process improvements and data conversion strategy.
Developed and designed the Production Data Warehouse. Taught a 3-day data
modeling class to IT staff. Mentored staff in data modeling and ERWin CASE
tool. Developed data migration strategy. Facilitated process and data modeling
sessions for the Oil & Gas regulatory division for a complete enterprise
reengineering effort. Developed a data architecture strategy, methodology, and
conceptual system design. Facilitated the design of the Production Data
Warehouse and Operational Data Store.
Helped develop Use Cases for 2 applications and performed quality control
reviews by mapping Use Cases to Enterprise Business Models.
Tarrant County led the way for adjacent jurisdictions to easily share information concerning criminal and judicial activity. By reengineering their business process and developing an integrated view of their information requirements, different jurisdictions can share information from all criminal justice processes including Court Activity, Investigations, Arrest, Booking, Detention, Bond, Medical Examinations, and Probation.
In addition to facilitating the BPR work sessions, managed the development of a Logical and Physical Data Model for the Medical Examiner Case Management project and helped develop Use Case Specifications. Trained and mentored staff in data modeling and ERwin CASE tool. Managed a team of Data Architects in developing the enterprise wide integrated data model.
Worked with executive
management and business leaders and provided business process reengineering
support for the agency's Business Process Improvement team to develop the
agency vision for the future, new business processes, enterprise integrated
data model, technology architecture, data conversion and EDI strategy, and
business plan to implement the strategy. Followed Zachman Framework as a
methodology. Facilitated workshops with business subject matter experts to
gather requirements and model the agency's data and developed a Component
Object Model design.
Trained and mentored agency personnel in process and data modeling. Developed a
data administration strategy and methodology. Developed the Enterprise Logical
Data Model, data conversion strategy, and initial physical database design.
Case tool used was ERWin, BPWin, and Group Systems. Helped draft an RFP to
outsource the development. Worked with management and business project teams
to develop and implement change management action plans to improve business
process performance levels.
Provided this telecommunications company with a conceptual enterprise data model and a relational data model for their pricing business function.
A consultant  to Dell's
Americas Service Delivery Division. Responsible for the logical and physical data
modeling of a number of their inventory tracking systems.
A consultant to Dell's Sales and Marketing Division. Responsible for the
requirements gathering and data modeling of the consolidated configuration
tool, which supported international data requirements. Worked closely with the
business subject matter experts, DBA and development team through requirements
definition, physical design and implementation. Developed the migration plan
and data mapping analysis to move off the mainframe. Platform was Oracle and Unix.
A consultant to the
company's Data Architecture group. Involved in the requirements gathering and
analysis of many projects. In all projects we used Cayenne Case tools for
forward and reverse engineering of data models and worked closely with DBAs to
produce a physical design.
Service Center � Requirements definition, analysis, and strategic plan for
consolidating domestic & international employee & contractor profile
information.
Real Estate � Reversed engineered the REPS DB2 database into a preliminary
logical model and worked with the users and the architect team to normalize the
model and complete the data dictionary.
GAP Brand Integration � assisted in the modeling of the data requirements for
the initiative to integrate stores.
Inventory Data Integrity � Assisted in the requirements definition, analysis
& development of a Conceptual Design for the inventory reconciliation
project.
Supervised and facilitated the data architecture and business process re-engineering effort of this SACWIS initiative. Taking an enterprise approach, the state addressed all processes involved with case management. Major processes included; staff development and performance measures, resources development and monitoring, eligibility, claims processing, investigations, assessments, and court processing.
Reverse engineered current databases into ERwin and used BPwin for process modeling. Developed a component-based design and forward engineered the new design into a prototype. Assisted in the requirements gathering, technical and conversion architectures, and completed the interface and migration strategy for the department.
Supervised and facilitated the data architecture effort of a $15 million statewide Business Process Reengineering project for the Crash Records Information System (CRIS), a joint project of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the collection, management and dissemination of automobile accident information. The resulting integrated system allows the officer at an accident scene to focus more time on securing the site and attending to the needs of the victims instead of manually gathering information. Many proposed process changes have been implemented (i.e. the introduction of smart drivers� license so officers can scan information about participants, automated devices for the officer to retrieve vehicle information by entering VIN numbers, and on site access to any criminal record or driving record). Accomplishments include:
Developed a data warehouse to analyze deficiencies of Long Term Care Facilities.
Managed the planning and design phase of a Third Party Resource Pharmacy Recovery project. The Social Security Act allowed the Texas Department of Health (TDH) to use Title XIX Medicaid funds for the payment of medical services only after a reasonable attempt has been made to utilize all available third party resources. Developed the Data Model, Process Models, Requirements Document, Project Charter, Project Work Plan, Resource Plan, Issue Management Plan, Risk Management Plan, Communication Plan, and RFP.
INFONOW, INC. (Feb 1994 � Oct 1995)
IT Director for a large furniture retail company with sophisticated warehouse management, point of sale, Customer Relations Management (CRM), and financing applications. Over 50 stores and 3 warehouses thru out the state are connected to Austin. This provided management with on-line/real-time information on sales and inventories for all locations.
Responsibilities at InfoNow included the day to day management of the office, its budget, resources, change management, and purchasing.Â
Established personnel evaluation standards and Quality Control procedures for development.Â
Performed a business re-engineering analysis and developed a plan for redesign of all computer system onto a relational client-server platform with a UNIX server. After evaluating various object oriented methodologies we developed a technology plan that included hardware, databases, development 4gl tools, and network strategies. With the workplan in place, design and construction began in 1995 for a Customer Relations Management (CRM) system.Â
Project management and time tracking procedures also were implemented to monitor maintenance as well as new development.

ERNST & YOUNG (Sep 1986 � Dec 1990)
A senior manager specializing in project management training, data modeling, and business/systems analysis. Helped develop the initial methodology that eventually came to be known as Navigator.
Developed the curriculum for the first Business Area Analysis (BAA) seminars. Taught the first BAA and data modeling classes.
Certified as a Project Management Master. Employed many times as an internal consultant to E&Y�s own project managers to provide quality assurance, risk management and management training.
E&Y Consulting Engagements:
Project Manager for
worldwide order processing and Customer Relations Management system.
This was an AS400 application developed using SYGNON, a 4GL development case
tool. This application had many interfaces to Exxon�s legacy mainframe systems.
It was also Exxon�s indoctrination into downsizing and three-tiered
client/server architecture using the AS400 as a server. This project was
completed under budget and 2 months ahead of schedule. Conducted data modeling
training sessions and facilitated the data analysis effort.
Project Manager for Gas
Information Management System
GIMS was a mainframe-based application with an IDMS database engine. The
application had many subsystems. It tracked gas contracts division of interest,
well volumetrics, pricing, royalty payments and disbursements as well as
automatically generating the accounting transactions for subledgers and general
ledger. Facilitated the data analysis efforts for the project.
Project Manager for a Raw Materials Tracking and Production Management System. This application began with an IMS database engine and was finally implemented using DB2. It tracked purchasing contracts and receiving of raw materials (mainly rice). It also provided real-time optimization of blending methodologies and over 20 production steps.
Project Manager for Gas Information Management System. A mainframe based production and revenue application with an ADABAS database engine. It tracked gas contracts division of interest, well volumetrics, pricing, royalty payments and disbursements as well as automatically generating the accounting transactions for subledgers and general ledger. Initially brought in to provide quality assurance for the project management procedures and for team building.

Project manager for Executive Decision Support System for the company�s two drilling subsidiaries. This was partially a client/server and partially a mainframe application that captured cost accounting data from many legacy systems and provided it to the users in a business object type of format for quick and accurate analysis of the business.
