SUMMARY
*Software Engineer and hands-on Team Leader with over 15 years experience in all
phases of product development. Broad background includes embedded software, network
management, MIB design, agents/managers, device drivers, distributed systems,
datacom/telecom protocols, and user-interface design.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Extensive experience writing
technical documents and user manuals, making technical sales presentations, teaching,
and mentoring.
*Tenacious troubleshooter and problem solver who takes responsibility and gets the
job done. Used to working in start-ups and other high-pressure environments.
*Adept in the international arena, working well with partners and customers from
other cultures.
EXPERIENCE
Consultant
Feb 2003 - Present
*Contract work for Microwave Networks: designing SNMPc-based Element Management System,
debriefing downsized offshore employees, systematizing propagation of SONET/SDH faults,
advising on both difficult technical issues and overall software strategy for HeliOss
radios.
Software Architect
Microwave Networks, Inc. - Stafford, TX
Jun 2002 - Feb 2003
*Identified and incorporated the best parts of the HeliOss management technology into
the new Proteus-AMT radio, authored its MIB, redesigned its Element Manager.
*Created architecture and roadmap to integrate the management and user interfaces of
Microware Networks and HeliOss radios after Microwave Networks acquired the HeliOss
Pinnacle product line. Managed transfer of HeliOss software development to MNI.
*Evaluated technologies for possible future use, including Web Services, WBM, Java,
WxWindows, QT, CORBA, etc.
Chief Software Architect
HeliOss Communications, Inc. - Waltham, MA & Israel
Apr 1996 - Apr 2002
*Designed, implemented, and maintained embedded software for family of point-to-point
microwave radios. Used Epilogue TCP/IP stack and SNMP agent, Nucleus RTOS, MetaWare C,
MASM/TASM, and SSI tools on Intel 386EX processor. Customer interfaces include
SONET/SDH, DS3/E3, T1/E1, and 100Base-T. Management protocols include serial CLI,
SNMPv1, TELNET, TFTP, PPP, and Ethernet. The software design is based on
message-passing, which allows multi-radio protected radio links to operate as unified
virtual links.
*Designed, implemented, and maintained cross-platform (Windows/UNIX) GUI Radio Element
Manager application that runs standalone or under HP OpenView.
*Built and led binational software team, set company standards, established unified,
multi-time-zone software development process, developed automated stress/regression
test platform.
*Helped with all aspects of building and managing the company (as one of the founders).
*Excelled as technical member of marketing and sales teams. Provided extensive pre-
and post-sales support that was key to winning and keeping the company's largest
customers.
*Created Linux-based proxy management product to provide a standard SNMP interface to
third-party radios with proprietary management interfaces.
Consultant, Software Architect
Ossipee Networks, Inc. - Waltham, MA
Jan 1994 - Apr 1996
*Designed and implemented embedded TCP/IP-based software for above-ceiling controller
for wireless electronic shelf label system. Worked closely with hardware design team
in Hungary. Used Nucleus RTOS, DMH IP stack, Paradigm Systems tools, Borland C, TASM,
Intel 80186 CPU. Designed reliable, flexible BOOTP/TFTP-based flash software update
feature, evaluated DSP hardware/software.
*Worked with potential partners, customers, and investors to design a
multi-media-capable Ethernet switch with ATM uplink.
Software Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, Consultant
Ungermann-Bass - Andover, MA
Aug 1986 - Aug 1994
*Key member of team in Advanced Engineering group that designed and prototyped
software to allow ATM-like bandwidth allocation for multimedia traffic on Ethernet.
*Led team that developed "MacUWS", a script-driven, multi-session, TCP/IP-based
terminal emulator and file-transfer application for the Macintosh.
*Co-developed "Contact", a PC terminal emulator and script-based host front-end. GE
chose Contact as their corporate standard terminal emulator. Worked as a technical
liaison to GE and other customers to develop front-end applications based on Contact.
Demonstrated Contact to Tandem's board of directors after Ungermann-Bass was acquired
by Tandem Computers, won "Tandem Outstanding Performer" (TOPS) award as a result.
*Developed NDIS, ODI and SCO UNIX device-drivers and SNMP agent for fault-tolerant
dual-ported Ethernet adapter. Worked at Sprint and at a Wall Street trading firm to
deploy the adapter in fault-tolerant networks. Applied for patent (with two colleagues).
*Wrote utility to automate conversion of NetDirector's SQL Server and flat-file
network-management database to simplify customer XNS to TCP/IP migrations. Created
installation software for Ungermann-Bass's TCP/IP protocol stack.
*Wrote SMS-like utility for Boeing to do centralized desktop management, automatic
software installation, and IP address management.
Earlier Experience: Designed and taught college CS courses, managed DECNet-linked
VAX/VMS systems, administered ORACLE databases, wrote business applications for college,
developed device driver for custom tape drive at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center,
wrote virtual machine and UNIX-like OS to run on it, designed and built 8-bit computer
from SSI TTL ICs.
