- Major
energy retailer – Delivered mission critical, high
transaction-volume EAI solution on-time & budget. Developed
flexible architecture that provided immediate cost reductions (over
70% for some processes), increased data quality, reduced operational
risk, and millions of dollars of TCO savings.
- Shared
services organization – Negotiated and developed project
charter for this implementation of PeopleSoft Financials v8.0.
across four diversified subsidiaries. Developed detailed plans, risk
management, change control. Identified inter-company G/L
reconciliation issues. Developed technical architecture to support
the PS applications, geographically dispersed organizations, and
unique business requirements
- High-tech
software firm – Managed the migration of this firm to
Oracle Web-based Financials from a custom legacy application.
On-time, seamless cut-over was achieved by identifying and resolving
G/L conversion issues, predicting organizational issues , developing
proactive mitigation strategies, and
delivering proper training to the financial organization.
- $1.1
billion services firm – Led the 25+ person team through a
PeopleSoft Payroll/HR/Ben Admin implementation supporting over
200,000 employees that required changes to virtually every
fundamental assumption of the package. Guided the architectural team
through the difficult decisions required to meet the business needs
while maintaining the integrity of the PS product. Hired, mentored
and fused a collection of independent developers into a cohesive,
highly productive team while meeting extremely tight deadlines.
- International
hydroelectric consortium - Led the development of architecture
and specification for this commercial product for hydro power
plants. Defined functional, technical, and data requirements for
this product that interacts with a variety of analog and digital
sensing devices. Following completion, prepared the RFP, consulted
in the selection of a vendor for development of the product, and
assisted the client in successful negotiations with a joint venture
partner.
- Large
transportation authority - Managed this project, successfully
developing and deploying a integrated workforce automation solution
for the Southeast’s largest public transportation authority.
This mobile application completely eliminated paper work orders for
this workforce. In its first months of operation, the system
increased productive maintenance time by over 50%.
Strategy/Process/Methods
- “Top
ten” energy retailer - Mapped, assessed, and engineered
the key business processes required for this retail energy company
to increase its competitive position. This project required managing
the activities of key personnel from all functional areas of the
business, as well as interacting with, and managing the expectations
of, the “C-level” executives. Our “quick hit”
tactical plan delivered immediate operational risk reduction.
Heretofore undetected unprofitable products and customers have been
discovered in just the first phase of the strategic implementation.
- Northeastern
energy retailer - Prepared a systems integration strategy.
Addressed business and technical risks, schedule, and resource
requirements related to the integration of various
systems/outsourcing arrangements to handle the business requirements
of the deregulated sub focusing on capturing market share in the
initial rounds of Pennsylvania’s retail wheeling pilot.
Included financials, customer care, call center, acquisition
management, database marketing, and billing.
- Lighting
services supplier - Assessed and engineered business processes.
Identified key business technology needs, evaluated build vs buy,
prepared vendor assessment criteria, managed vendor selection
process, and prepared system implementation plan.
- Southeastern
natural gas distributor - Conducted the assessment of the status
of the gas utility’s activity-based management program.
Prepared and developed direction recommendations for senior
management, based on review of ABM best-practices both internal and
external to the utilities industry. This resulted in a significant
research effort to identify the top vendors and prepare a group for
final selection by senior executives. Once the vendor was selected,
led the ABM project team in activity design and organizational
re-engineering, cross-allocations to FERC GL, and integration into
current systems.

Commercial
real estate firm - Prepared a strategic information plan for
this commercial real estate development and leasing firm. Conducted
vendor negotiations resulting in immediate operating cost savings
were over 75%.
Infrastructure
& Communications
- Large
North African Nation – Developed an integrated
communications architecture that supports the current and future
needs of the electric ministry in moving to a more “intelligent
grid” environment. Combined optical, wireless, and PLC
technologies to meet the unique challenges and opportunities of this
environment to provide the client with $25+ million immediate
hardware savings, $100's million of TCO savings over the life of the
assets, and a quantum leap in capabilities.
- Major
Pharmaceutical company - Managed complete redesign of computing
infrastructure for this firm’s R&D division. Required
understanding business, complex scientific (drug modeling, clinical
trial, etc.), and regulatory (FDA) system requirements and
interactions and developing an new architecture to support these
processes.
- International
energy consulting firm - Managed the re-engineering of the
internal IT function of a consulting organization to supply improved
service and decreased cost for this 250-person operation with
offices throughout the US and in the UK. This involved developing an
integrated team approach, creating a compatible technical
infrastructure between companies and offices, and providing more
effective technology for both users and the technical team.
Implemented new worldwide WAN infrastructure, migrated to web-enable
financial systems, and rolled-out Lotus Notes-based sales management
system. Managed day-to-day operations for this group for nine months
- International
government consulting firm - Managed all technical and physical
infrastructure change requirements generated by the acquisition of a
deregulated energy subsidiary, which provides complex energy billing
and retail settlement services. Involved platform assessment,
network migration, analysis and negotiation of both customer and
vendor service agreements, and application migration and
certification.
M&A/Turnarounds/Financial
Analysis
- High-tech
software company – Led the transmission analysis software
division of this company company back to profitability. Identified
opportunities for restructuring and process engineering that
resulted in a greater than $2 million dollar operating profit in the
first six months. Coached line managers to help them reach their
targets. Developed strategic and tactical plans for marketing,
sales, and international software development to enhance ongoing
profitability and revenue growth.
- Energy
consulting firm - Worked extensively with this well-respected
management consulting firm to initiate and develop an information
technology division after their IPO, focused on service to the
leading firms in the energy industry. LOB’s were: IT Strategy,
Business Intelligence, Packaged Software Implementation, and
Operations & Field Systems. Developed partnerships with
world-class technical providers e.g. SAP, Arbor Software, Mincom,
etc.. Moved from $0 to a run rate of $200k/month in under six
months.
- Textile
manufacturer - Developed the financial models for the
acquisition of this manufacturing operation. Assessed all physical
plant at all factory and corporate locations, confirmed MAI real
estate valuations and valued all intangibles (IP, trademarks,
licensing agreements, customer lists)for this transaction.
- High-tech
manufacturer - Worked with the C-level executives of this
holding corporation and all its subsidiaries to develop a model for
creating a master limited partnership. Work closely with corporate
counsel and external corporate and tax attorneys to craft this
entity. Its execution resulted in several million dollars in initial
tax savings, as well as ongoing operational savings.
- Credit
card processor - Assessed all assets and operations of the
credit-card processing company. Established values for all hard
assets and developed models to support the valuation of depreciable
intangibles such as customer lists, etc. Valuation provided strong
contribution to immediate profitability.
- Paper
manufacturer - Led team valuing this merger transaction in
excess of $1 billion. Derived final valuation which modeled all
tangible and intangible assets to arrive at fair market value for
this sucessful transaction.

construction company - Conducted a stock recapitalization for
this closely-held firm. Developed all financial analyses and worked
closely with tax attorneys to ensure transaction was properly
structured and valued.
