Summary

"John is an expert multi-tasker and problem solver with that rare balance of discipline and creativity."

Mr. Hann's current passion is leveraging Web 2.0, DHTML, and Ajax techniques with Open Source tools and languages to deliver world-class products that are scalable, efficient, impressive, and usable.

During his career, Mr. Hann has delivered more than 75 enterprise-class software projects to Web 2.0 companies and plain-old "brick-and-mortars". More than 85% of these are web-based Internet or intranet applications, including a Web 2.0-style product created in 2000 (US Patent 7,016,751) and several Rich Internet Applications as far back as 1996 (using browser plug-ins before 1999).

Mr. Hann previously focused on Microsoft-based tools, acquiring 10 years of very valuable experience.

Career Accomplishments

e-numera, Inc.: Billerica, MA (http://www.e-numera.com aka Sapphire Six, LLC until July 2001)

e-numera builds web products for Application Service Providers, Web 2.0 start-ups, and corporations.

Web Product Architect / Senior Programmer 1997 to Present.

Founded and grew the company through a solid reputation and a long legacy of robust software projects.

In his current capacity, Mr. Hann uses his extensive Javascript, HTML, and web apps experience to deliver Ajax-based Rich Internet Applications. In addition to grokking the dojo, prototype, and jQuery toolkits, he has also written two high-performance frameworks from scratch at the request of customers.

In his previous role as team leader, Mr. Hann orchestrated multiple simultaneous cross-functional teams through the full software development life-cycle while programming alongside developers in 75% of the projects. He used a balance of OOAD, RAD, and JIT techniques to develop robust technical solutions for his customers. Other tasks included mentoring developers about software engineering techniques, quality standards, project management skills, customer service, and career development.

Selected Customers: Analogic, Babson College, Borland, Compass Bank, Cybex, Edelman CSR, FHLBB, Harcourt.com, Kronos, Oracle, Nissan, Polaroid, Putnam Investments, Sitters.com, Sun Life Financial, TAC Worldwide, TIAA-CREF, TimeTrade, toysmart.com, Watson Wyatt, WhatsTheHomework.com.

Selected Projects:

Oracle Life Sciences' Remote Data Capture: Zero Foot Print Client

Oracle Life Sciences' ZFP project is a significant upgrade to their existing browser plug-in-based solution in use at Pfizer and other pharmaceuticals. The ZPF client is written entirely in Javascript and HTML (including XHTML, SVG, and VML) and features an advanced, extensible OO framework written from the ground-up to perform. It uses dual inheritance schemes; private, friend, and package member scoping; the decorator design pattern for flexible widgets; and JSON as the basis of the client-server (Ajax) protocol.

My role on the team is as the resident Javascript guru, but I also act as the primary consult for all HTML and Browser design decisions. I introduced Oracle's developers to Firebug so we could leverage its unparalleled client-side debugging and development tools.

Stakeholder Relationship Management (SRM) for Edelman CSR, Nissan, et al.

The SRM application is an industry-specific CRM application with advanced visualization and relationship tracking features for large corporations such as Nissan, Wal-Mart, and Whirlpool to manage complex relationships with NGO's. In the latest revision, a custom Ajax / DHTML OO framework replaced a fat, clunky Flash plug-in, allowing users to drag-and-drop icons representing organizations onto a coordinate map and draw relationship lines between them (like Visio). In addition, prototype was used in combination with custom widgets to enhance a ASP.Net / SQL Server architecture.

Compass Home Value (CHV) for ClickRSVP, LLC and Compass Bank

CHV is a SPA (Single Page Application) that is only 160 KB (50 KB compressed, excluding graphics). CHV makes it very easy for bank customers to calculate their home equity and apply for a qualifying loan. The SPA architecture drastically decreases latency making the process extremely responsive. Eliminating delays removes a major cause of lost sales leads. Selective use of Ajax, animation, and DHTML further increased the smoothness of the application, making it feel virtually instantaneous, despite several server callbacks to perform lookups and calculations. An optional interactive (DHTML) slider allows users to find their "sweet spot" via point-and-click / drag-and-drop simplicity.
